2024-25 Coaching Carousel

Agree... ownership has a lot to do with things. Some franchises seem 2nd rate. I read something about fired HC's and how they regrouped, and most did it through reaching out to other NFL coachs/GM that they knew for support. I wonder how the NFL coaching community view certain franchises?

Some are just revolving doors/unstable, and they only really compete on the secondary market for head coaches. Shad Khan would be a tough owner to work for, he bought the team in 2012, they are onto their 7th head coach... Doug Marrone had the longest tenure of 4 years. Mark Davis/Raiders are the same thing, longest tenure for a HC since 2011--3 years. They moved Vegas and Gruden got relieved on his own accord, who would of had a longer leash. It is one thing to strike out on a college coach or really young coach, but it is another to strike out on a coach with NFL chops.
The NFL is designed to provide a level playing field where every team can succeed yet there are franchises that perpetually are terrible and others that are consistently winners, easy to argue that the biggest difference maker is ownership.

Teams like the Jets, Browns, Bears, Cowboys despite having year after year of high draft choices continue to be terrible, others like the Steelers, Niners, and some others despite low draft picks, and even with some mistakes, consistently rise to at least playoff level.

Locally good example, When Pat Bowlen was fully in charge the Broncos won as much as anybody in the league, he got sick, the trust takes over, and the team is terrible. Walton/Penner take over and even with the huge Russ mistake and a lack of picks from the Russ trade and the Payton trade they appear to be back on track.

Might be a reflection on how good Joe Burrow is that as bad as the Bengals organization/ownership is he has made them a threat.

Raiders, Cowboys, Jags, are examples of teams where the owners have consistently forced bad decisions and the team is bad because of it. Those owners cannot just hire the right people and support them in doing their jobs, they have to stick their noses into things and mess them up.

This list is interesting. You can argue with placement of certain individuals on it but the reasoning for inclusion seems to be spot on

worst owners

Cowboys and raiders are owners that are bat**** crazy

Jags are just cursed

It sounds like he and Franklin did not really get along.
Also, timing is really good for this move if Allen is trying to advance his career. PSU defense will take a step back next year with the guys it's losing to graduation & NFL while Clemson is positioned to be better in 2025. Beyond that, Dabo is loyal as heck to his coordinators and doesn't meddle much at all on the defensive side of things.

Apparently Allen is also pretty outspoken about his faith (moreso than most coaches), so working under Dabo seems like a natural fit.

If the rumors are true; Prime lied to all the transfers and recruiting class, mass exodus occurs. Jones gives up the farm to trade up to pick Shedeur. CU hires some also ran assistant, we never see a winning season again.

If they are committed to the program to the point they are budgeting $10m for a HC and $4m for two coordinators, they will be able to attract a very high quality coach. Not saying just anyone would get that much, but if that’s the budget, there will be suitors

Im not sure anyone is available this late in the cycle

I'm with Hokiehead on this one. I'm a long time Pats fan and yes, Brady was generational and it got tougher to win without him.

But the NFL (due to reverse draft order, salary caps, roster limits, etc) becomes a game of tight margins.
BB found a way to have the Patriots always good enough at every position to win. I think BB lost his lust for it near the end.

And that is the wildcard here. If he's lost his lust, he will collect a check and exit stage right building up the generational wealth nest egg.
If he goes after it, he will build a machine and they will out-evaluate and out-develop a ton of schools.
He will recruit with the promise of NFL development.

It's a little risky sure. So was CP with almost no head coaching experience at any level above Jackson State.
CP we knew would recruit well, but could he CEO?
BB we know can CEO, and I think in today's environment, he will sign guys, not recruit them. They won't have to like him.

And no, he's not that unlikeable unless he's kicking your ass.
Remember Chuck Fairbanks.
