I don't believe the NCAA has the power and authority to regulate it. I believe it has to be the conferences.
Not the conferences, it must be the schools forming a legal coalition and the players forming a union and all three parties working together. But, there is a vacuum now and the Networks and dirty boosters filling the voids and the schools giving up the power.
T9 isn’t going to get changed. Schools will need to license their image rights for football operations to third parties.

You can spend obscene amounts of money on your favorite team in hopes of winning a NC and also give insane amounts of money to charitable causes.
It doesn’t have to be either or.
If I had $1-$10B, I would give $100M to Folsom to increase my odds at seeing a NC.

For me, all the value would be gone if I "bought" a title. This isn't pro sports.
If you’re willing to give 10% of a $1 billion fortune, then you should give at least 10% with a $10 billion fortune. Now shut up, go make $10 B and donate $1 B each to the school, the AD, and 5430, beeatchhh!!!
It could be up to 50, schools like UCF got a large NIL collective as well
It's always been there but just not for starters, more so the stars and the best players on the team but now, starters are expensive. That's what is massively different
They generally get things on the back end like business ventures and things like that. It's a business exchange at the end of the day unless it's PR based.
Never underestimate the pride and ego factor in these things.
At the end of the day, is dropping a few hundred thousand on your favorite college football team all that different than dropping the same money on a ridiculous sports car, or super prestigious country/yacht club membership?

BN: I'm hearing some of the same chatter for the Spring portal. Geez, I wonder if we hit 3000 transfers?
IMO, these guys will not be as valuable as the guys on campus for Spring ball, but there will probably be some big names--and if you have a position needed filling, you might have an option. CU can get another TE even perhaps a Lundy sized run-stopping LB to plug in. Some of them may be depth pieces.
Hopefully, the Spring moves are more dictated on Depth Chart decisions. I had a few questions:
1. Correct me if I'm wrong, but once a guys transfers in and play a full season-- a school/coach cannot "cut" them for performance alone (they have to screw up)?
2. On the other hand, any player can decide they don't like their position on the depth chart and hit the Spring transfer portal, correct?
3. Also, a school/coach can sort of cut new transfers that show up for Spring practice and do not pan out, like Traore, that FL OT, or that guy from MI and then went to Zona having a decent year?
Do you have any idea on where CU will end up post-Spring portal-- maybe 8-10 moves, or are you thinking more.
The whole thing is mind boggling... Although, the enrollment date hits, these AD's are going to sort of be recruiting transfers (and their own players) all the way through Spring Ball.
IMO, NIL drives things some, but it is really playing time/exposure where-ever you play. These guys don't want to sit the bench anywhere, otherwise they have little NFL or NIL exposure. Good gracious, there is just so much overall competition between players, schools, coaches etc... Thanks for your info.
The Spring portal is going to be crazy with unlimited transfers and nobody policing tampering.
I'm not sure how "cutting" rules work. I think that a player can be told he can stay and have his school paid for but isn't going to be part of the team. He can accept that and stop playing football or he can choose to enter the portal. There are different rules for a new HC than an incumbent regarding this stuff. In the past, we've seen cases where CU medically retires someone and later on he transfers & plays football for someone else.
Regarding spring, it all depends on how many guys choose to transfer out. If no one does, we'll only be taking 5 or fewer additional guys. I think we need an ILb who can compete for starter snaps, and game ready depth at OT, DT and S. I also think we need another TE who is capable of starting.

Thanks BN. I'm thinking along your same lines. An impact ILB and DT/DE could really turn the fortunes of the D regardless of the DC. If Zimmer stays they might not change a whole lot scheme wise. We need a good guy in the box, and one on the field. OLine depth is never bad, but with the portal going the way it is, I think that it is tough to build these days for practically every team. Guys just want to play.
Zilinkas was a pleasant surprise. Brown could be as well. Totally agree on TE, we need a few more, but we can't grab scraps just to have bodies. Hoping Passarello gets healthy for one last run as a JR/SR. I was impressed with how much he bulked up between the 22 Utah game (he was in sweats) to what he presented at the Spring game. Total body change. It looks like he puts in the work, so he deserves it. He could be a great depth piece.
I agree the attrition will probably be relatively small (this is a fun team to play for) and Prime will probably bank a few schollies should someone become available or for the next season. I think many other teams will be in the same boat these days. It is nice that we have some PWO's with perhaps some potential.
One is contributing to the continuing decline of a once proud institution, now fraught with secret deals and total exploitation, mostly for the enjoyment of a handful of rich and dishonest white guys.
The other is contributing to college football.

Agreed. Thus far, Prime has been able to retain the guys he wants to keep and process the guys he doesn't. After Spring Ball, it will be clear to the staff that there are more guys they want to.move on from.
