2024 Transfer Portal News - Please Respect My Decision

For some kids certainly the portal is a negative. They come in expecting to spend their college career in one place only to find themselves displaced and forced to adapt to a new team.
In many ways thought it is good.
We have already discussed here the leveling of the talent, you don't end up with a high 3* recruit sitting on the bench 4 years because the school has a better 4* in front of him then brings in another 4/5* just when he should be maturing into his prime. He goes elsewhere and makes another school that doesn't have that level of talent at his position better.
In a lot of ways it is also better for the kids. College football is a full-time job, these guys bust their butts year around conditioning, doing individual drills, studying, etc. the portal make it easier for them to get rewarded with significant playing time, with being a priority for the coaches. It may be at a smaller program but not losing a year in the transfer makes it much easier and opens options.
Most players will never be pros so playing and contributing as the college level is a reward for their talents and efforts.
It also might open the door for some to go pro. I think back a few years ago when Alabama had something like two Heisman trophy talents and five eventual 1st round draft choices in their receiver room. Those guys were great but the Tide had something like 8-9 guys on scholarship who the pros were never going to see.
The portal might have allowed a couple of those guys to transfer to places like UAB or Texas State where they would be starters, where they could get the development that comes with being a starter, and who knows they could get an opportunity as an undrafted player or even be drafted in the later rounds. Stay at Bama and all they get is to be in the team picture and play on the scout teams.

I don’t think he was committed but visited before signing day ‘23 and was a target.
One of the top targets. Nubs went all in to secure a commitment late. Had a feeling they tapped a donor and Coleman signed there despite not being in love with it.
His adopted parents played a role as well. Big nub fans
Not sure if he was serious with us or not. I felt like he was just using us to drive up the price of his NLI package at NU. Brilliant move in his part to bat his eyes at a rival, especially with all the Ruhle/Prime drama at the time. He had to know that Nubs were going to pay a high price to keep him from going to evil CU. Props to him. Extra props if he changed his mind and now actually wants to play for a team like CU that can help him reach his dreams.

I’m more interested in going after the projected starting LB from Nebraska who just hit the portal as a grad transfer
Weird that an Oregon backup enters the portal and gets the "reserve" tag in the announcement to make sure people don't think he was a major part of the program. When Colorado backups and PWOs enter the portal, they go out of their way to talk about how many games they started/played in and their career stats.

Then move him back to WR. He had 5TDs last year. By comparison Travis Hunter also had 5 and Xavier Weaver had 4. Talent and effectiveness aren’t always the same thing.
At the very least he should have been put on scholarship even if his role is reduced from last season. And that should have been announced immediately after the CSU game.
He got moved to TE because he wasn’t going to sniff the field as a WR

He would be WR12 on this team. Again, this offense isn’t trying to use the TE as a big slot receiver. It wants to use the TE as an in-line, hand in the dirt blocker who can occasional provide a receiving threat. That’s not Michael Harrison.

Yak, I agree. I see all this stuff about Harrison. It is my understanding that he took part in senior day, and graduated from CU; thus he was onto grad school. The portal is not over and perhaps Prime can grab another guy. The bottom line is Harrison is still listed at 6'3" 215, thus agree with everyone's sentiments about how he is not a fit into our new scheme and line. He would not be anywhere close to an every down player.
One thing I applaud is Michael Harrison entering the portal. He is a grad transfer and deserves to be at a place where he can regularly get onto the field playing a decent role. SDSU provides that and that is all you can ask from a players perspective. The way I perceive CU's offense, specifically the larger offensive line, if Harrison stayed he might be a 3rd down spot player, however if we are 4-5 wide, then Hunter, Wester etc... will fill that inside slot spot quite nicely.
MH was a nice player/student and made some plays for us last year. I remember reading something where he is perhaps playing WR at SDSU. 247 has him unranked. Rivals has him #899, #53 TE in the portal. On3 is better #478, #19 TE in the portal.
We all know Meteyar busted. His ranking much higher with experience and stats when CU signed him (top-150 overall). Since he departed, his ranking plummeted.
I'm not sure Sam Hart is the answer, but he is competing and much larger listed 6'5" 255. Rivals #430, #26 TE in portal. On3 has him #527, #21 TE in portal. If we are doing horse trading, Harrison for Hart is perhaps a CU lean (better fit) or a wash. Again, not sure Hart, Smalls, Pass (if he gets healthy) or Pearson are the 4* answer, however someone will either show-up or Prime will bring in another guy.
I'm not going to repeat my rankings analysis, but using simple math, I use the top-20% as the cut-off. 3200 players in the portal, top 20% is #640. DJ Mckinney is one of my gauges and we know we have a contributor there. A bunch of CU's signees are in the Top-20%. Except for DE and maybe a few others very few departing players meet this threshold. We know Cormani does, but IMO until he grows up he is high risk. Many departing players are still unsigned for some reason (Marvin Ham is generally in the top-300 of all the sites), some signed at smaller schools or went to Ore St., who is playing in the MWC. Caleb Fauria is a Deleware Hen!
