22-23 Transfer Portal and General Recruiting Catch-All Thread

I think overall the talent level on the team is vastly improved, but for the sake of argument, lets say it isn't. Cleaning house was needed, even if they were not able to bring in more talent. Nothing personal against any individual player from last years team, but as a whole they had been poorly coached, part of a deeply ingrained losing culture, and playing well below their mediocre talent level. Their "experience" and any unity they had as a group was a massive negative with absolutely no upside to the program. Trying to build your beautiful house on a ****ed up foundation gets you a ****ed up house no matter how much you put into it.

Couldn't agree more. No matter what people say, we will be putting a much different team on the field. That alongside an upgraded coaching staff. I'm excited to see what a group of guys who are ready to prove people wrong can do this next year.
 
No doubt that what has been brought in, and continues to come in is better than a large majority of what has left. Yes, there were some players from last year that started that I wish had stayed for rotational and/or depth and experience. I do see why they wanted to leave.

I do feel like this team could be ready to compete for the top half of the PAC starting 2023, instead of white-knuckling the steering wheel to keep out of 12th place, or the bottom of the South.

I do believe a bowl invitation is absolutely possible this season, and bringing in some kids from the portal next offseason and bringing a solid HS class for 24 will help immensely and probably will give strong consideration to take the conference. Especially if some of the highly touted third year players stick around after this season!

This is actually my second biggest concern. I’m concerned about the DL. When I look at this team I’m pretty excited about the future, but games are won/lost in the trenches as they say. The interior of the DL is 🤷🏼‍♂️. I think the OL will be better, with TE being my 3rd concern, but we may not utilize that position as much. Still, way better than last year by a country mile!
 
You guys seem on your game today. I agree with a lot of the posts. I think that the type of offense CU will run will likely take into account the O-line and not expect them to hold blocks for long (especially if this looks to be a problem in the first couple of games). Air raid quick hits, HB draws, etc.
Also the apparent looking for larger blocking TE options may also be part of trying to shore up protection and compensate for O-line weaknesses.

Part of the problem when we were watching our QBs over the last couple of years was they were slow to get rid of the ball and make decisions and they ended up sacked or running for their lives. There are ways to compensate for that a bit and these coaches are good enough to scheme for that somewhat. And our new QB is good enough (I think) to get the ball out quickly if the protection isnt there.

Again...I hope.

But if the opposing defense can't just pin their ears back and go after our QB without fear that they will pay a price, that will be an improvement over the last few years right there.
 
I personally think the lines are difficult to evaluate in recruiting. Hard to find those sure-fire hits.

For now I'm going to trust the staff with talent evaluation and assume they're getting guys who fit the system (o line especially)
 
Interior OL seems really strong. The two tackles are 6'9" and gigantic. If they show out it could be great.

For DL, we need @SkobuffRecruits (elite recruiter) to nail down Shone @nolasilverback.

Then I'm comfy believing we can go 8-4.

Yep…as a whole the O-line group is better but who are the starters? Seems like a bunch of decent players but no one to really be excited about.

DT also a major question mark. Only four “true” Dt’s on the roster right now. None of which were starters last season. Only one is over 290lbs. And the Fla. St. guy seems like the only one with a high-ish ceiling talent level.

"There's no question CU is dramatically better at QB. There's no question that adding Travis Hunter and Cormani McClain is HUGE and gives them talent they didn't have before. Beyond that, I think it's OK to question how big the upgrades are. The OL has only two guys with Power 5 experience and that came here at CU. This roster is filled with a bunch of guys who either a) Excelled at a lower level school or b) were highly touted coming out of high school but didn't play much at their previous Power 5 stop. So, there are a TON of players that still have to prove they can play and excel at this level. I think potential is there, but as of right now, I would consider this - at best - the 7th or 8th best roster in the Pac-12. I don't think it's roster that "should be at least 6-6." I think it's a roster that has some potential to get to 6-6."
