'23 FL CB Cormani McClain (Signed to COLORADO)

I think that Prime sees him as a future top pick that might actually be more talented than him or Travis, but was not really well coached
I still wonder if he is a gamer, and never had to practice hard, and they are working as hard as they can to get him up to speed, and he has to give more to the process. All I know is that he is going to be a big part of next year, so I am rooting for him!

The angst over Cormani is funny. This is big boy football. Prime told everyone from day 1 that jobs are earned. The walk on WR is starting at TE and scoring the game winning TD while the 5* corner works through the developmental growing pains. This is how it should have been all along. No promises, nothing given, everything earned.

Agreed. H.S. kids/ Freshman clearly grow up and develop at different times. This kid physically matured but may need a bit more time in other areas: spacial awareness, anticipation, integrating defensive calls into his reaction and techniques, developing the right instincts—when a WR breaks outside, punch from the inside shoulder to stay on balance (and other drills we’ve been watching Coach Prime work on with the CBs).

Not to go bender, but when I was ski racing, I had an off season before I turned 18 where I grew like 6 inches from end of one year to the next. The following season was a complete loss: I had no feel for my body, where my legs were, or how to stay compact and balanced. Not all of that was physical.

Oddly, around age 17, I hit 6’3” 165 lbs, Pretty much the same as Cormani. So, all I’m saying is, don’t go skiing with Cormani for at least another year. 😜

I don't understand why there's hand wringing over this, unless people just ignored every scouting report on him that said his upside is through the roof, but he wouldn't ready to play right away due to being extremely raw.

There is also the element that Corner requires the highest level of self confidence out of any position on the field short of maybe QB. You can ruin a talented kid’s psyche if you’re not sure he can see consistent success with what you’re asking him to do.

One thing I know for absolutely sure is that I'm not going to question what CP decides when it comes to cornerbacks.

This is a long comprehensive article on CM about his departure and initial recruiting. I think it is well done. I would say "scathing" comes to mind. Any team will look hard before signing him. He needs to get serious and grow up fast. Another lesson in grabbing a 5* and assuming it answers all the teams ills. I'm now a big fan of the EE (early enrollee) out of HS.

247 reporting that he is "getting very little interest" from schools due to his lack of maturity, attitude and perceived "laziness"
I was so excited when he signed with us. I’m really bummed for him and I hope he gets it worked out.
He seems like he is actually a good kid.

Maybe this is exactly what he needed to wake him up and push him to start putting in the work to turn his potential into performance.

USF or UCF still the likely destinations? He probably needs to go somewhere he can play and develop this time. Maybe a Florida Atlantic or James Madison would be more ideal where his athletic ability should help him make up for mistakes on occasion.

Kid signs with representation without a school to play for. You could kind of tell from the beginning, but we all ignored the red flags. Kid is unfortunately not going to make it.

I'm sure those NIL companies would require the kid to show up for events...will the kid do that?

He's going to have to go the smaller school route in FBS and perhaps FCS.

Great article...agree about early enrollee out of HS. I think we will see more EE's in this era of college sports.

I'm sure there are several P4 programs that will take him. In todays environment, there really isn't much risk to the school. If he gets his **** together, they win. If not, they fill the slot with another portal entrant the following year.

If that was true, he'd be with a team by now. This kid had a ton of red flags from the beginning and they have basically all been confirmed after one season in college. Very few P4 programs are going to give him good NIL money, but I could see a program giving him some kind of incentive based NIL deal that more hinges on him showing up to meetings and practice and watching film, etc.

If I was him with his talent, I'd be evaluating what I thought was my best offer. Yes - there are red flags, which is why he's no longer here. He's not going to get the NIL opportunities he was offered out of HS...not even close. But if you're a P4 school willing to offer incentive based NIL like you said, or even a small amount of NIL, you don't have much to lose. He's a good kid (doesn't get into trouble) and makes good grades. But he's lazy and entitled. There are plenty of P4 coach egos that think they can fix that.

You sure about that?

Big college football doesn't care if you're a good kid or making good grades while playing school. They need you at practice, in meetings, and watching film. He'd still be at CU if he did the football part
