Signed to other '25 FL IOL Michael Carroll

I’m more comfortable with Carroll than Carde for Freshman starters. Carroll could certainly have the type of early success that Seaton had, but Carde seems (admittedly, to my very limited eye testing) like he may need a year. It’ll be interesting. I’m less and less convinced we’ll snatch Carroll away from Bama.

I do think Prime will get some solid OL through the portal as well, though.

Edit: I think I’ve only been watching Junior year Carde Smith tape. So maybe he IS ready!

I think Houston and Smith would be serviceable at RT next year. But with Houston’s injury I would hope we would grab another tackle

Yeah, I mean Houston tore his ACL so he's not going to be full go until Fall Camp at the very earliest, likely not even full speed until the season starts, with no or very limited ability in the Spring and Summer to add the 20-30 lbs needed. I don't really see him as a factor on the 2025 OL.

Add to it that RT was easily the worst position on the OL this year and I expect multiple additions to compete there. I'm pretty sure Kirkland and Owens are both projected as IOL guys.

Hopefully hitting the portal hard for a true Right Tackle

I agree, but I don’t blame the kid. Turning down being a millionaire at 18 is extremely difficult. Sure, he might have gotten that here eventually, if he performed, but he got his bag right now at Alabama and it’s guaranteed.

Also, Alabama had a down year, but they’re still in the playoffs right now and are still a NFL factory, so it was always going to be an uphill battle to get Carroll here.

Of course I'm disappointed here, but I don't know about getting upset or questioning someone because a longtime hard commit and priority recruit for Alabama chose to stick with his commitment. I always saw this as "Hail Mary odds" to get a flip. Glad we took our shot and got him to visit. 🤷
