No, you are co-OC with the other 17...you will call every 20th play of the offense.
I want to get in on this too, I have a really ingenious run up the middle.

I’m hoping for a lot of bubble screens and read option. Hopefully he’ll run the QB up the middle on 3rd and long on a regular basis. The defense’s will never expect that. And, on the occasion we have, say, 3rd and 10, we really need those 8 yard slants.Just reported on Coach Scoop - Co Offensive Coordinator Chiaverini will call plays going forward. Has to be true

I have the same nagging feeling. The cupboard was basically bare when he took over. I have zero doubts he was a step down compared to JL, but we had zero depth or skill on that DL and at half the LB spots. This more with less crap rarely works. I’m willing to give another year at least before I decide he was a waste. Again, we regressed, but we lost 7 starters on Defense. Let’s see what he can do next year.I may be in the minority but I think some of the venom aimed at Eliot is displaced. I'm not arguing that he was an uninspiring hire, but I felt like the CU defense was decent in the first half of the year and was completely exposed down the stretch for having zero ability to stop a power running game.
But when I see our 350 lb NT repeatedly blown five yards off the ball on every play, my first thought is NOT that there is a schematic inadequacy by the DC. Our DL was just soft. Period.

In regards to your last paragraph, I think I have to completely disagree. I think CU's front 7 is the least talented part of this team. I think you did a good job of identifying issues with the scheme/coaching, but it wasn't that much different than last year. There is a talent issue and you can start with one of the ILB's being way over matched athletically once we get into Pac 12 play.I covered this subject at length in a different thread.....but my quick two cents.
Football players are funny creatures....they constantly need to have good habits drilled into their heads via reps and in practice. I strongly believe that Leavitt was a stickler for relentlessly running to the ball on an every down basis. This is trained in practice via pursuit drills and coaches riding guys if they don't do it on every rep. Every great defense does this because they help each other in tackling, and good things happen (turnovers) when you have multiple guys around the ball. I maintain that the defense regressed during the course of the year because they lost these habits (i.e. Eliot doesn't emphasize it)....and the habits slowly went away as the year wore on. It was a very clear observation for me. I think Eliot focuses more on the X's and O's than the simple things that actually win games like drilling constant effort into the brains of your players.
I also think that our front 7 has much more talent than what was displayed this year (This is where people tend to disagree with me most). But the D Line, specifically, was being asked to line up 2 yards off the ball and "catch" the offensive line and hold their front. That doesn't work, and is a BIG reason why fans are so critical of our front seven. To me, this is not a talent issue....it's an issue of coaches putting our players in a position of significant disadvantage.
They probably got it from footballscoop.com too.CU reported this yesterday
Wait, if there are 18 of us, and I get to call every 20th, who gets to call 2!!? ?!?!?No, you are co-OC with the other 17...you will call every 20th play of the offense.
I am not saying they are world beaters. And I would be lying if I said there aren't major deficiencies....but I am not going to point those out because I don't want to disparage college kids. This isn't a black and white issue of either not enough talent, or poor coaching. We need to upgrade talent almost everywhere. My point is that the talent is better than what was represented. The coaches didn't do their job in setting these players up to succeed, or rather, not putting them in positions of disadvantage. In regards to your last paragraph, I think I have to completely disagree. Agreed, just think it is a talent problem more so than a scheme/coaching problem. We are plugging in JUCO's here as much as we can because they are so terrible at recruiting it through the hs levels. That is fine for fitting pieces that need depth right away. Not for an entire positional group, or almost two groups.I am not saying they are world beaters. There are those on this board that understand defense better than I, so please correct me if I'm missing something. Ok, but it will be the fake fly sweep (for the 14th time), delayed QB run up the middle. On 3rd and 27.If you agree with this BS you won't be able to call a play until the 4th quarter.
yea, I forgot to turn on my smartass fontCU reported this yesterday
Does anyone remember the oft-heard "Troutman up the middle"?? My wife even pulls that one out from time to time. Suffice to say if it is a memory of HER'S, it was utilized WAYYY too much.

It's a technique for not allowing the defense to substitute so that they can't adjust for pass/run situations. It assumes that you have offense personnel that can do both well.I don’t get the “no huddle, hurry to the line then take 25 seconds to snap the ball” thing.
19??? That just seems a bit much don't you think?Can I be Co-OC number 19?
Allows you to recheck if D adjusts after your first check. I like it. Like playing chess at LOS.It's a technique for not allowing the defense to substitute so that they can't adjust for pass/run situations. It assumes that you have offense personnel that can do both well.
Yeah, I get that aspect of it. But I’d still like a faster pace and a change of pace. Snap it quickly sometimes, slower others. Vary the pace. Hard counts, soft counts, silent snaps. You should call Chev about ingenious idea you have.Yeah, I get that aspect of it. But I’d still like a faster pace and a change of pace. Snap it quickly sometimes, slower others. Vary the pace. Hard counts, soft counts, silent snaps. Keep changing things.
