Bubble Watch - Saturday 3/12

If we get in, it will be by the skin of our teeth and we almost certainly will end up going to Dayton...we'll play one of the other last four teams...

Do you guys mean a play in game

The new "first round" consists of 4 games on the Tue/Wed of the first week of the tournament. Whoever the committee decides are the last 4 at-large teams to get in will have to play in Dayton in the new version of the first round. Also part of this first round are the "worst" 4 auto bid teams from small conferences, which obviously doesn't concern us.

I really believe that if we win 2 games in the Big 12 tourney that we will have a good shot at not having to play in the first round in Dayton.

We're assuming there are 0 upsets in any of the minor conference tournaments. If Bob's college beats a team that was already going in, we're out. We are nowhere near in this tournament yet.

Game was a lot of fun though. Wire to wire win when we needed it. I was actually a little underwhelmed by the whiteout. Why didn't people put on the white shirts we were given? Crowd was good though, and Relforde played well. Way to go Marcus, sorry I've been so hard on ya

now gottlieb is saying we need to win two games in the b12t to have any shot of getting in. i can't keep track of this ****.

True, but most or all of the small conferences are 1-bid leagues anyway. So this really only applies when a team that isn't even on the bubble suddenly wins one of these conference tournaments and at least one other team in the conference is already assured of a tournament berth.

A good example would be if anyone other than BYU, SDSU, or UNLV wins the MWC tournament because these 3 teams are in anyway. Therefore if someone other than one of these 3 wins the MWC tournament that would mean 1 less bid for all the at-large teams.

**** Gottlieb...I trust Lunardi a lot better on bracketology, and I trust a lot of other people more than Doug on basketball. He's decent, but **** him. I do think two wins puts us in for sure, and one win puts us solidly within the bubble. Many teams will be in that bubble category with us if we only get one Big 12 tourney win, so once again, CU controls its destiny. Win two games and you're definitely dancing. Win one, and optimistically start to pray. Lose, and say hello NIT.

i'm the other way Duke, though i respect your posts.

i think Doug G. is an incredible moron for pretty much all the spheres of living, but is good when it comes to college basketball.

Lunardi sucks out loud. the guy wouldn't even have a job if Jerry Palm didn't already do it for him....and a decade earlier.

The correct answer is "whichever one says the nicest things about CU".

:yeahthat:

Not only does 2 wins all but put us in, but win 2 in the Big 12 tourney and I also like our chances of avoiding the first round in Dayton. Even with only 1 win I'd still put our odds at better than 50-50 of getting in, but that's not a chance I want us to take.

Maybe in a way it's okay to play KSU in the second round. So what if we do lose to them (as long it's not a blowout), the NCAA committee could always say to themselves that the Buffs still own the series at 2-1, including a road win and give the nod to the Buffs.

If you're saying it may come down to either us or KSU, that won't be the case because KSU is already in the tournament.

Not at all. What I'm saying is that they won't take that loss as a large weighing factor against the Buffs because we already beat a tourney bound team twice. Not to choose between the two teams.

Hell of a fight here between Missouri State and Indiana State on CBS

Edit: Larry Byrd's school going dancing - Sycamores are in. Missouri State was favorite and has consistently choked in the championship game the past few seasons. Don't worry, they have no chance for an at-large. I don't often get a chance to see these minor conference tournament championships, but it really is March Madness a couple weeks early in terms of the drama and intensity. Win or go home.

i think it can, minne has no shot unless they win the big12 tourney, penn st is still in the discussion.

Yes - Minnesota has completed faded and fallen to a 6-12 B10 record. Penn State, meanwhile has finished league play 9-9 (a tie for fourth with Meatchicken, MSU, and Illinois). They needed to beat OSU at home earlier this week to have a good chance, but if they were to make the finals in Chicago next weekend they would certainly be in the discussion

CONFERENCE TOURNEY BUBBLE BUSTER ALERT

25th ranked George Mason lost in the semi-finals of the CAA tourney today to Virginia Commonwealth (23-10). This means that a 1-bid league just became a 2-bid league with GMU a lock for an at-large.

****!!!

In good news, Kentucky won at Tennessee. With the infractions by Pearl, I think the NCAA committee is looking for any excuse not to put Tennessee in the tourney. 18-13 (8-8) shouldn't be enough, imo, despite some of their really good wins.

Just so you know in Lunardi's latest bracketology that has us in, he has the CAA as a two big conference.

Not quite yet. ODU and VCU will meet in the tourney final. We really, really, really need ODU to win that one.

VCU always has a big advantage in the CAA tourney - played in the Richmond Coliseum just minutes from their campus. Come on Monarchs, damnit!!

Correct because he also had Old Dominion in. So now we need to root for ODU to win that conference tourney. They are still alive in the CAA tourney, aren't they?
