Build Rick George a Statue (was #fireRickGeorge)

Nearly everyone on this platform is resigned to the fact that KD will be the coach for the next two seasons. Many don’t like it but very few think it’s feasible to fire him right now. Why? Because the department can’t afford to. And why is that? Because the department and CU Boulder leadership are awful at administrating an effective athletic strategy that generates enough fan and donor interest. It’s been that way for decades now and most aren’t optimistic about that changing anytime soon.

Now they are resigned to it. The reality is CU have a lot of problems and it will take time to rebuild the program, I dont know if KD is the guy or not. But the reasonable thing to do is give the guy time to build the team he wants. I do like the changes made to the coaching staff and recruiting has been okay. The team is too young for my liking but will give the guy a chance. I want to see progress in 2022.

DU generates a lot of revenue from hockey. It’s a private school so they won’t release those financials to verify, but believe me, that’s a money maker for them.

DU also has something like six national championships and is currently ranked #5 in the country in hockey. CU doesn’t have any of that and wouldn’t ever have it. DU also owns its own arena and wouldn’t have to spend money to rent one. The economics work for DU. They wouldn’t at CU.
As a long time season ticket holder for DU Hockey I can say this is all true except they have 8 Nattys and are #3 in RPI. I can also say that even with these credentials, they rarely sell out their games in a venue that is arguably one of the best in college hockey. To think that CU can, or ever will simply stand up D1 Hockey without a HUGE influx of donor cash and some major logistical heavy lifting is ridiculous. ASU just did this via a big time private donation and it's not exactly going as expected.

I have no doubt that DU's women's gymnastics team breaks even. It is constantly a highly ranked team and draws very well in attendance. It's basically the only college program in the state (Air Force used to have one but not sure if they still do).
Their meets are jam packed and their facility is incredibly nice. It also helps they have a solid group of donors and are always ranked in the Top 10 nationally.

I will never agree with the crazyness on this site. I used Ice Hokey and Gynamstics as an example of two possible sports additions. BTW nothing in your post says we can't make money from hockey. RG will run the numbers. CU can make money from the addition of new sports. If the school deploy the right strategy. Firing a coach after 1 and a half year in charge with a payoff of about 14 million is crazy. Predicting the record of a team in January while the program is still adding players is strange. Calling some one a troll just because they present facts about how a coach has the best record since Gary Barnett is also strange. Well I guess I am a troll.
I think we determined you weren't a troll. Just an idiot.

Still waiting for you to show me that math on how adding mens hockey and converting Coors into a hockey arena is financially viable.

I’m all in favor of Phil stepping down, but I’m at a loss as to what he did that was so egregious in this instance. What’s the problem people seem to have with him?
If you read the petition it covers various aspects and specifically states this is not just in response to him not acting to alert students and faculty soon enough when there was a violent suspect in the area.

Meh. The BPD had the guy under surveillance for a day. In this particular instance, I think the response was appropriate. Just because this wasn’t a total screw up doesn’t mean Phil shouldn’t step down.

The math itself isn’t hard. It just requires a massive investment from some unknown benefactor. Around $200MM should do the trick.
