Butch Jones Decision Day Thread

I would make damn sure the guy was going to sign before contract details and such were leaked. You guys are giving Bohn an "A+" for effort essentially. It is incredible.

I'm no Bohn apologist but it seems like he did what he could, and in the end Cincy simply upped the ante and Jones decided not to uproot his family for what may have ended up being only a few hundred grand if that. I know that's alot of money to people like us but it's not all that much when your salary is in the milllions. Besides maybe he decided to work on another good season or 2 at Cincy and then land a big-time job at someplace in the Big 10 or SEC. Keep in mind he didn't leave last year either when he may have had the chance to go to Illinois, UCLA, or North Carolina.

Have we conceded?

As fans, we've been conditioned to accept failure at CU. We're coping with the possibility that he's going to stay by convincing ourselves that he has already made up his mind. That allows us to move forward. I don't think Bohn has conceded yet, but I would be disappointed if he weren't already checking his options.

Cinci is a better team than CU. That is an indisputable fact. He may not want to deal with the rebuilding project.
Cinci is *apparently* making a serious effort at upping his salary, so money isn't an issue.
Moving is a pain in the ass.
Changing jobs is a pain in the ass.
It's easier to win 9 games at Cinci than it is to win 6 games at CU.
The media attention won't be nearly as glaring there as it would be here.

I am sure I could come up with more, but there are just as many reasons to stay as there are to go. I don't necessarily blame the guy for staying, I just wish we would have had a better idea of what his plans were prior to flying him out here, showing him around, making the offer, etc. He's wasted our time.

Moving with $15 million dollars = not such a pain in the ass. The better team part is a variable to the equation. CU could be a better team quickly. The rest of what I mentioned were constants and they favor CU big time. I heard UC having trouble coming up with the money to match our contract offer and lack facilities money.

The media isn't dialed into CU when things are status quo. They're all about the Broncos.

If Bohn isn't already checking his options then we really have a problem

Ringo just on KOA believes the long no decision by BJ does not bode well for CU "in his experience."

Guys like Klatt, CJ and Big Al won't let this die - ever. They'll always bring it up any time the team loses a game. It'll always be "I guarantee you if Embree had been given the opportunity to turn this thing around, we wouldn't be in this position right now". That won't go away.

We shouldn't feel bad about losing a guy who chooses to stay in a ****hole like Cincy vs. Boulder.

That comment shows a total lack of understanding for the Buffs situation. And it is very ignorant sour grapes type of attitude that we don't need..

Boulder is NOT a destination. It sure is a very pretty place to live, but as far as being a great football atmosphere. Sorry to tell you that, but I have seen GREAT college football atmospheres. And as far a financial support from the administration it is in the bottom among major universities. The facilities are pretty dumpy compared to the stuff out there now. Recruits see that.

If Cincy makes a commitment to facilities and bumps his pay why would he come to CU? He knows what the frying pan is like so why jump into a Colorado wildfire that has scorched the last few coaches?

Seriously, Boulder is not college football nirvana. It isn't a great job right now. We are an ugly duckling. The potential is there with the right guy. But, he will have to be a patient program builder and politically savvy at the same time.

We need to hire the right man not the right name. You don't hire to make a great announcement press conference. You hire to make results on the field.

Maybe. They haven't seen winning CU football in a while. A few wins and their tune could change.

Any 16 year-old kid who has asked a girl out knows that a long time without a response is not a good sign...

Blah, Blah, Blah - I'll keep my attitude as it is, I doubt any potential candidates are trolling these boards. I'm well aware of the situation in Boulder....

Not one single former CU Head Football Coach is currently employed in that profession. Career killer....scared Butch away. LOL

On a serious note, this delay is worrisome yet laughable. I'm out. Talk to ya'll on signing day.

Getting fired from your job as a head coach is typically a career killer. Only 19 of 146 coaches fired since 2000 have been hired again as FBS level coaches. CU isn't really the killer.

Well said. If only we knew who the "right man" is.

No, if there was one thing learned in the last week and a half, those a** clowns don't care about anything but hearing their own voices and personal agendas...

Not that big of a deal, still a lot of good candidates out there. There have been some very succesful coaches who were not a school's "first" choice.

Ok. But I don't think that Klatt, Al or any of those guys have any impact on the decision or future regret from Jones. Seems trivial.

the mood on this board right now is silly. no news is GOOD news, not bad news. if he intended to stay, it would be announced quickly for the sake of his players who are preparing for a bowl game and his incoming recruits. even if they are renegotiating his contract, they'd most likely announce that he's returning and that a new contract is in the works.

If it turns out he doesn't want it, someone will. CU may not be at the peak of things right now. But it is a great school in a beautiful place. It is in a major conference with a shot at BCS bowls every year. When the team is good, selling the school is easy and they can get top recruits here. If facilities are the only sticking factor, well those are coming. When they arrive, the school will look pretty attractive. Being bad can be humbling, and when they do get good again, I hope everyone looks back on the lean years and appreciates what they have.

Well, we'll never know. Assuming he stays (seeming more and more likely as each minute passes), he will hold a presser stating that he still has work to do at Cinci, and that his heart is there and blah, blah, blah. He's not going to come out and say "well, I thought it over and I think the situation at Colorado is a disaster, and the media there that covers the team is largely made up of former players who have spoken very vehemently about their displeasure that the former coach was dismissed. I just don't want to step into that kind of situation".

Evidently, Butch is still thinking about the CU job. A eeeee S Peeee in article quoted Butch in his presser, "I'm still the coach here at Cincy" And if anyone asks me another question about my job status, then this news conference is over.

Touchy isn't he?

They should have called his bluff and peppered him with questions. The press conference was mostly to benefit the bowl and the university anyway.
