BYU 2025 Game Week - Again, at some ungodly hour on Saturday

Why did you exclude Georgia Tech, who is a favorite to be in the ACC Championship Game? Did that game not count against CU's statistical rankings?

Houston's defense is 11th nationally in Points/game, 10th nationally in total yards, 9th nationally in passing yards, and 35th nationally in rushing yards.

Wyoming is #2 in the Mountain West in scoring defense and top 3-5 in the conference in everything else.

I'm just saying that BYU's statistics are greatly skewed at the moment as they've only played in 3 games when most of the country has played 4, and theirs have consisted of a really bad FCS team (Portland State is 0-4 with being outscored 184-23 and has already been shut out twice), a really bad 1-3 Stanford team, and a 2-2 ECU team.

When you've only played 3 games and one of them almost statistically didn't even happen for the opponent (Portland State literally had 51 yards of total offense), the national statistics need to be taken with a massive grain of salt.

Thanks for countering my post I was just posting stats. I didn't look as deep. You give me more hope for Saturday.

I was told Prime has become unhappy about how hard the playing surface is. Numerous injuries, and players apparently have cuts on exposed body parts. This may be an another colossal ****-up by RG by exposing the football program's key assets to much higher injury rates than the competition.
No idea if this is true, but rumor has it that there is some ordinance that wouldn't allow CU to use normal crumb rubber infill (tires). Technology has come a long way, but I am not sure why they didn't just use a sand base infill.

There was a player earlier in the week showing his cuts from the playing surface. If I can find it, I will post it here.
It's a wood based filler. No idea if it's an ordinance, a green thing, or what.

I think I remember there being controversy around the black rubber pellets that were being used and we'd see get kicked up on tackles and whatnot. Something about inhalation danger? Not sure if they stopped using that.

you don’t understand that Portland State are world beaters, my dude.

Why did they put those wood chips on the field? I’ve never seen that anywhere else?

Edit: already answered.

I mean, they practice on it at least once a week. If it was that big of a deal, Prime wouldn’t subject them to it regardless of whether they have to play games on it or not

Rumor is that the city or county of Boulder won’t allow for rubber infill anymore. Not sure if it’s true or not.

ECU was easily the best team they have played. The other two are bottom 100 and 200 teams. ECU has a legit passing attack and BYU did like they did to Shedeur and really caused the QB a lot of issues. Salter can carry a team. He's a different problem when he's decisive. The QB had a 44 grade. They really shut him down. Their pass blocking was twice as good as when they played NC State and NC State DL is way better than BYUs but BYU is vicious on QBs who can't carry an team. That said, the WRs still ate. All year, ECU been a terrible run blocking unit. Much worse than even us.

It appears that they sacrificed the Houston game to motivate KSalt. We’ll see if it works.
I kind of hate this narrative. It’s the state media spin to play it off like Prime had a plan all along when in reality they completely ****ing bungled the QB situation. They are lucky K Salt was mature about and didn’t tell the staff to kick rocks when they came back to him.

I mean, he’s out of eligibility. What’s he going to do if he tells them to kick rocks?

And honestly, he wasn’t playing up to his ability in either game. Playcalling wasn’t good but he was very indecisive. refused to run and wasn’t being a leader. Whether it was part of some plan or not, it’s a mutually beneficial relationship that needed some stress applied to it for him to understand the assignment.

I agree that it would have been stupid for him not be willing to to run it back. I just get annoyed at this spin because it's them trying to say Prime can do no wrong. He has plenty of faults.

He wasn't playing to his potential and wasn't being a leader
The staff bungled the situation
He realized that he needed to step up if he wnated to play football in his last year of eligibility

These three things happened randomly. there was no master plan.

With his experience at this level, an indecisive QB = coaching. Oh sorry this isn't the fire Shurmur thread. Although I guess all threads should be fire Shurmur threads.

Just ordered some magic underwear. Will hopefully be delivered by game time. Now God will be on our side.

Talking with friends and looking at the tickets available on the broker sites and on here, is anyone going to the freakin’ game?

Pretty good analysis here.
BYU Defense and running game is very good.

Kaidon Salter holds onto the ball longer than any other QB in the game according to them. Although I wonder if that's because he is improvising and moving around.

See above. It's because he's still not good at reading defenses.

After watching this, watching ECU last night and talking to a few people who know football better than me, I think we drop this one and BYU covers 30-17 in a game where our LBs and/or DBs cost us, Mata misses a FG and we hang around all night but there's never really a feeling inside Folsom that we can win it.

I think the shredded tire stuff became an issue because it's used at many kid's playgrounds and some thought it was carcinogenic. Many hp communities banned it.

How could a company that does lots of artificial field installations, suddenly put in 1 that was too hard, caused cuts? Unusual
