BYU Game thread. Official.

I appreciate the thoughtful responses on this thread to Saturday's extracirricular verbal activities. Thank you, it has reinforced my belief that there are some great CU fans and that I'm glad to be in the same conference.

I've had worse said to my face at another road football game, which featured another former Pac member (not Utah), so I've learned to take it in stride and move on. Coach Prime's comments were wonderful and the sort of class that has him up with Kalani Sitake on my pantheon of great and influential (for good) football coaches. The same applies to those out here who have offered thoughts that were cut from the same cloth. What happened was most unfortunate, both in terms of timing and content, but doesn't diminish my appreciation for everything good about about CU that I've experienced, speaking as one who gave one of its doctoral programs a long and very hard look, while also enjoying the backdrop to Folsom Field.

I personally prefer if all fans were very quiet and calm and simply watched the game with no cheering whatsoever. Then I can hear the sounds of the game, the running, the snap count, the clash of pads and helmets. No need to hide out at a bar away from starved pullets, and I can sit back with an unobstructed view (for everyone will be sitting down with no thoughts) and gaze with splendor at the Shreve High teams gallop terribly against each others bodies. And afterward the press conferences will be done in mime forever.

Note: not actually being snarky here. I would prefer this. I love mime and always want to watch games without commentary. I want to see the camera float on steadicam down the sidelines and even into the stands sometimes, in long Scorsese takes for best cinematography awards, and then back onto the field for the galloping and the clashing. Like live performance of Pafko at the Wall at the beginning of a Don DeLillo novel. And instead of chants about Mormons, we sometimes stop at Trey Parker and Matt Stone to overhear their approved commentary.

I have to agree with Zandi that **** em up **** em up is overused. The CU fight song is 100 years old. Adding obscenities to it is a stupid modern convention. I’m assuming most people know the backstory so I’m not going to rehash it.

I feel very sorry for the poor souls who were unable to chant it when the band stopped playing Rock n Roll Part 2 due to Gary Glitter being a pedo, but it was dumb adding it to the fight song then, and it’s dumb now. Plus we have Rock and Roll Part 2 back again, so it’s not like **** em up **** em up is going away anymore, anyway.

I know it’s not going to go away, students are going to be students, but I just had to throw my 2 cents in.

Now let me go tie my onion on my belt.
Disagree with all of this. But I am curious on the "backstory" because I don't know it AFAIK?

I have a similar feeling. However, I would say that generally HCP does a good job with getting the team to bounce back after poor performances. We were even super ready to go at the beginning of the BYU game, before we faded down the stretch (from the 2nd Q on). :/

Even then, we had the ball back with a chance to outright win the game with 2 mins left, only down by 3. That's all you can really hope for against a Top 25 team, especially this year. From my perspective, all we really needed was a QB who can do the basics, and we win that game. Just a bit of a passing game, see/hit wide-open WRs, which shouldn't be a big ask.
Yep

I'm guessing ASU. Had to be the worst experience I've ever had at a football game. Their fans were absolutely intolerable.
