CFP Race 2024

Kansas State has to be pissed with being below us one spot in the AP. I would vote them ahead of us right now to be honest, they beat us at our house, but it is so sweet and funny
Rankings are a week to week proposition. Since that KSU game, CU has blown out Arizona and Cincinnati. KSU beat WVU, needed a last second FG to bet KU at home, and lost to a really bad Houston team.

This site shows the Buffs with a 10% chance of making the CFP, which of course makes no sense because they show the Buffs having a 22% chance of winning the conference. Whatever, I'll take it. The Buffs are still alive as of November 4th. Just win baby.

So the easiest path is for CU to win out and KSU to beat ISU. Clear cut. However, we can also root for KSU to lose next weekend (they're on a bye this week) to ASU and the following week to Cincy, so they fall behind TTU in the standings.

I hate oversized conferences without divisions.

I get that the division set up can leave a weak division sending the 3rd, 4th best team to a CCG, but at least the teams that got skipped over in the strong division got a bite at the apple when they lost in the regular season.

HAAATE not having divisions.

NFL fans would lose their **** if the AFC and NFC were the only divisions, and only the top 2 got to be in the playoffs.

I like it better without divisions.

But I could go with divisions if we went to a 2-round conference playoff that resulted in an 8-team national playoff with the P4 champs getting the 1st round home games and then 4 at-large bids determined by highest rank from the CFB playoff committee.

The problem with no for visions is you end up getting wildly unbalanced schedules.

It's more than fair to point out that Indiana has not played anyone of note yet. They basically get one chance to prove they're legit against tOSU, and if they get blown out, I don't even see an 11-1 Indiana making the playoff.

Nah, 11-1 Indiana makes the playoff even if they win their other games by 1 point, and lose to tOSU by 70.

The way it's starting to break, there may not be 11 Power 4 teams with only 2 losses.

Somewhat surprised Indiana and BYU didn't end up a bit higher.

They basically cut and paste the AP poll, but fixed some H2H ordering with Buffs/K-State and LSU/Texas A&M

They're voting not on resume, but on vibes. You can't tell me that 1-loss Texas with it's best win over Vandy, by 3 points has a resume better than Indiana.

Or undefeated BYU with TWO ranked wins is somehow behind a list of teams with losses and 0 ranked wins

At this point, bring back the broken ass computer based BCS formula.

At least you can pinpoint the nonsensical decision and explain what a team would need to do.

That said, most of this will sort itself out for the committee after things like Indiana vs. Penn State.. Watch Indiana spank Michigan and not jump Texas; Michigan was the "signature" win that helped jump Texas up to #1.

I don't feel that Indiana was ranked too low given they schedule they've played, but BYU on the other hand has 2 very good wins against ranked teams.

Penn State is ranked 2-3 spots too high

IU plays Ohio State, not Penn State

20 is really important. That means we are viewed positively enough if we finish out undefeated, there’s a chance we can win an at large.

I was expecting us to be unranked in this poll

I actually think the 20th ranking makes our path to the playoff easier if we win out and ISU wins out, but we don’t go to the CCG on a weird tiebreaker. Think it’s almost a lock for us at 10-2 to go in

THAT SAID………….

No chance we win out

Another angle is, what if we win out and win the Big 12 and Boise wins out and wins the MWC. In that case we might not jump Boise and therefore not get a top-4 seed and bye. If we ended up playing an undefeated BYU in the CCG I think our chances of jumping Boise would be good though.

Another thing, how is Miami ranked so much higher than BYU? They don't have a single win against a ranked opponent and had that ref-delivered win over VT. It feels like these 2 teams should be swapped in where they were ranked.

Would you take Indiana to beat Texas? I certainly wouldn't.

Texas should be ranked higher.

I think there's a significant chance the committee explicitly decides to not penalize CCG losers. At least assuming no blowout or QB injuries.
