CFP Race 2024

6 SEC teams is simply not possible unless ND loses a game, and even then it's highly unlikley with the B1G having 4 very solid CFP teams at the moment.

B1G - 3 bare minimum with 4 being likely
ACC
Big12
ND
G5

That leaves 5 for the SEC and even that would only happen if 1 of tOSU, Oregon, IU, or PSU falls apart down the stretch
Big 12 will get 2 if CU runs the table to the championship and autobid with BYU at 12-1.

I see 6 left there.

UGA-I think they lose to Tennessee at home next week if that Vol QB is healthy. They'd be out if that happens in my opinion.
Ole Miss-In barring an unexpected L. They still have to go to Florida, and that might be tricky if Lagway can play.
Alabama-In barring an unexpected L. Best chance for that to happen is at Oklahoma.......who struggles to do anything offensively.
Tennessee-In barring more than one loss.
Texas-Same as Tennessee. In fact, I think we'll get a Texas-Tennessee SEC title game.
A&M-no way they beat Texas. Goodbye.

If CU and BYU both win out and then CU beats BYU, we'll both go. Probably at the expense of Miami-especially if SMU wins the ACC.

2 teams in is an extra $4m for the league.;

I can't get over how weak Texas' resume is, go Hogs.

Tennessee v Georgia is huge; I would love to see Tenn. win, yet somehow worry that Georgia would still get it at 9-3; on the strength of beating Texas.

South Carolina had both LSU and Bama dead to rights; they are the would-a-could-a-should-of champs of this season; I think they stomp Mizzou.

The giant conferences and the spread of quality of schedules is a headache and a shame; Indiana could end up 11-1 and sweating it out on CFP selection day.

I think there will be a 3-loss SEC team in the CFP; I hope they get stomped in their first game.

Boise might end up facing the Lambkins in the CCG.

mandel is doing his weekly cfp predictions and this is the first time he's had the Buffs in as the b12 conf champion with a bye. he has byu out which sucks for them.

it is all pundit pontificating spittle at this point, but if this were to play out, we almost certainly will get a shot at Oregon in round 2. that's a big big challenge, but dropping them out of the cfb would be completely awesome.

Doing enough to force the pundits to talk about is in November is so crazy to me. They have to be almost as happy as we are. Extra clicks follow Colorado talk

I don't think Georgia gets in at 9-3 unless the Tennessee loss is close. I also wonder if GT actually competes with them this season.

I didn't really look at Rob's chart before replying to Duff. Didn't realize Rob's chart is just an overview of the AP Top 25. I thought it was his analysis of teams that were eligible for the playoff (kind of lazy, Rob - I usually expect more from you).

In any event, I retract implying that Duff is a dick (at least with respect to that particular post).

These rankings feel predictive, and I think they should be descriptive.

If the committee doesn't submit to poll inertia, then these might come out OK.

Basically, these rankings look like they should after Indiana loses to tOSU and SMU loses the ACC CCG to Miami...

However, I suspect Indiana drops if they lose their big game, and they don't jump Texas if they beat Michigan bigger than Texas did.
Indiana simply doesn't have a great resume.

They get one shot. If tOSU beats the breaks off them (they will), they won't go to the playoffs.

I think it shows how Ole Miss has underperformed this season.
Oh I completely agree. I think we finally saw what they can be when they play complete football. Beck threw 3 picks (I think they all came in the first half too) at Alabama and hasn't been the same since though.

Throwing this out there because Josh Pate brought up the possibility of this happening tonight-All talk of Boise getting a first round bye should stop after last night. Don't get me wrong-they should absolutely be in if they win out. As far as I'm concerned, this is a simple strength of schedule argument. When you're playing against the likes of Nevada at home and they're in the game with you late as a G6 champ who wants to crash the playoff, you need to be near perfect if you want that bye.

Missouri has zero shot at the playoff. Zero point zero.
Yup. The pollsters, nor the committee, think much of them.

Georgia is absolutely out at 9-3. People are calling these playoff eliminators for a reason.

Georgia has been meh all year and people have noticed.

Bama has had a lot of wtf, and people.have noticed.

If either team loses another game, they're out.

I think Indiana is out with one loss.

BYU is out with one loss, unless it's the B12 title game, IMO.

LSU is done. A&M will lose another game.

The hand wringing about the SEC getting too many teams in is overblown.

I disagree I think Indiana wins that game.
You genuinely think Indiana is the best team, or one of the best teams in the country?

I just don't see anything close to that.

Michigan **** them down for the most part, and tOSU is worlds beyond Michigan this year.

Michigan is basically IU's best win.

Their resume is basically Texas' without the Georgia loss.

If Indiana is on the bubble with one loss, then Texas is currently way overrated.

11-1 Indiana still edges out 11-2 SMU or Miami, and any 10-2 Big XII team which could be Iowa State, Kansas State or Arizona State.

Indiana at 11-1 could be left out for a 9-3 Georgia or Bama, but that's doubtful.

I just bet Tennessee and took the 9. Beck isn't right......and frankly their entire team isn't. Had it going on a tablet because they played in the same window.......but from what little I saw, Ole Miss kicked their asses.
Their running game is struggling as well. I think it's a big reason why Beck is. He's a good player, but not a dude that's gonna carry you.

I think the difference between the S tier teams and the A tier teams this year is very small. And I think Indiana can outcoach this tOSU staff + Rourke is a better QB than Will Howard

Except Texas has a win over Vandy, who beat Bama, and a more convincing win over Michigan in the Big House.

And both Utah and Okie State (winless in conference) had BYU on the ropes. Indiana is easily a top 10 team in the country right now. They deserve playoff consideration if their only loss is OSU (and they may well just win it).

this is wild and fantastic...

break it down like this: is any given result of any given game in any given conference good or bad for CU in the short, medium, or long term?

example--- perhaps if Indiana gets left out of the playoff, maybe that means there is an extra open spot that could land the Buffs in the playoffs. and so forth.

hate everyone who isn't us without qualification or reservation. root for whatever we believe helps us, incrementally or exponentially.

this is the zen of CU football.
