CFP Race 2024

Man, I read through all this, with us debating where we could possibly land if we win out, and all I can think is "dang, that hail mary against Baylor had massive, program-changing implications" especially if we do get through unscathed and make the playoff.
This team has improved. It has also used up all its luck.

sec fellaters screaming about conference losses in other conferences while they play one less conference game is peak bull ****.

sec fellaters whining about sos when they all play the little sisters of charity in the non-conference slate is elite trollism.

CU wins out and we are not getting left out of the cfp. fact.

**** everyone who isn't us.

It's frustrating that every time this gets brought up whoever they are talking to doesn't bring up the lack of a 9th game and the FCS bull**** in November.

The CFP selection system is highly flawed, which is par for the course for CFB. One way to make things less flawed is to compel the SEC to play 9 conference games. Until that happens, the SEC needs to quit whining when some of their 2-loss teams get left out.
ESPN needs to pay them for the 9th game. Their current deal is based on 8

Meanwhile Indiana, Oregon and Penn State don't play, while Ohio State plays all 3. Maybe **** these huge conferences?
I've been repeatedly saying this.

The argument against divisions was always that you could have a weak division and not send the best two teams to the CCG. We see clearly this year, that that problem isn't completely solved by only playing half of the teams in your conference.

This argument is bad. which would ESPN rather have: a meaningful 9th game that makes them more money or a body bag game?
I honestly think ESPN is happy with the status quo since less loses for the SEC is better for ESPN, and certainly the SEC wants less loses as well. The SEC has a **** ton of money already. Neither side is actually pushing for 9 games.

So should I hedge my bets that SEC talk will continue in this thread?

ESPN would be happy to trade 16 crap games for 8 which would deliver good to great numbers.

But its not an even trade like that. The SEC is not gonna play another conference game unless they are compensated. Probably at a higher rate per game then they currently get for 8. And more losses for the SEC can have a negative impact on the number of SEC teams in the playoffs, which could also impact ratings for ESPN.

I'm sure ESPN wouldn't say no to broadcasting another slate of SEC games instead of bodybag games for no more money or maybe even the same per game rate, but for them to have to pay more to force the SEC to play another conference game which could also kill their golden goose...I think they will chose the staus quo.

Maybe something will change after these next 2 years of the expanded playoffs depending on what happens to the playoff media rights.

So, if I'm right, it looks like our path to the conference championship game is either...

CU win next week AND BYU loses to Houston.
Or
CU win AND both Iowa State and Arizona State need to lose.

Oof.

we done. but, it was a helluva year. 12 will play his last game in college on Friday. let's celebrate his absolute greatness.

gotta close on some of the remaining targets and bring in some stud transfers. I think next year will likely be rougher without 2 and 12 but we can and should take the next step in becoming a team strong enough to become an annual cfp contender.

I hate this new b12 and all 3 of our losses are from old b8 teams. ... not sure what to make of that.

The scenario where BYU loses would also require TT to beat WV

There are currently eight teams with seven or more wins in the SEC, and Texas hasn't played any of them.
That is incorrect in the ESPN article (Georgia), but the only test Texas has faced was Georgia and they were never in it despite the worst version of Carson Beck showing up that day.

If they lose next week, they should be sweating it out on the bubble, but they won't be.

Their resume is basically Indiana's.

Nah, as one of the SEC’s 3 teams with 2 or fewer losses, they will be in barring the entire team being unable to play.

I believe both scenarios you lay out are correct, and also if BYU and ISU or ASU lose.

Thirteen teams are now bowl eligible (and Auburn could join them with an Iron Bowl win next week).

The above seems hardly relevant when most SEC teams schedule 3 body bag games a year.

Gotta keep an eye on the ACC. There's Miami & SMU in the top ten and then there's Clemson at #12.

All 3 ACC contenders could lose this weekend especially Clemson. Miami has to go to Syracuse and SMU has pesky Cal
