another issue is that altitude can effect blood clots. This is a half-assed AI comment, but I'm guessing they are fundamentally correct

I think it's smart to have his medical team present. I'm sure he will personally thank them for all they have done and then allow the experts to answer questions so that there's no doubt to what happened or could still be happening.
 
With all the speculation and reporting on the issue of his health, it makes perfect sense to have his medical team there to address these questions.

I really hope this is the correct reason.

I agree with the earlier assertion from Jens that having a medical team present suggests that this was/is pretty dang serious. The speculation about pneumonia made some sense, but I don't see that leading to having a medical team appear at a press conference.
