CU at Texas Tech 11/9 @ 2pm MT on FOX

I don't think I have seen another example of it taking points off the board. I've also seen where the same thing wasn't called. The inconsistent application, which we've been on the wrong end of, is where I have a complaint. It sure seems like this is a point of emphasis for officials when it comes to our Buffs.
I'd never seen refs interrupt celebrations until this year when they started getting in Hunter's way. They didn't throw the flag, but made it a point to try and stop things. That stopped eventually (I bet something was said), but this team is definitely not loved by the zebras despite playing mostly clean hard football.

I agree that taking the points off is just a dumb part of the rule. When I first happened I figured 15 yard penalty on the kickoff.

Here is the worst call of all time for taunting taking points off the board

Side note, is this official that called the holding on Utah?

To me the taunting stuff is just the like the baseball "unwritten rules," don't show off the pitcher non-sense. I have no problem with players wanting to celebrate with a dance, etc. in the endzone or a peace sign on the way there ... and I bet most of the football viewing public doesn't either. The people who do care, I suspect, are the older viewers who view it as the wrong way to play the sport - and that's that parallel to the baseball BS. If it draws more viewers, if it makes the game more entertaining, then they should allow it. Honestly, at the end of the day who the F cares. And for the team that's getting beat, get better. The only taunting thing that I've ever been against is "stepping over" a player when they're the ground. Actions like that don't increase the entertainment value and only increase the chance of fights breaking out.

Texas Tech has the kicker who flashed a MAGA shirt celebration against TCU and wasn't penalized. Compare that to Horn's peace sign celebration and getting a TD taken off the board. Stuff like that make it seem reasonable to question if refs are making biased calls because of politics or racism.
One happened during the course of a play, the other didn't. The TD being taken back was no different than a holding call keeping a TD off of the board.

Should never take points off the board. That’s just overly authoritarian. Peace out is such minor taunting too. That’s like 4mph over the speed limit.

Yeah. The inconsistency in officiating and application of the rules is really frustrating. That said, I, personally, don’t like taunting and don’t like seeing our players do it. But the severity of the penalty is over the top. It should be along the lines of “first offense - warning”, “second offense - 5 yards,” etc. And it should never take a score off the board. That’s ridiculous.

I disagree. One is interfering with the play (holding), the defense could have made a play but was held. The other is a gesture that is hardly taunting. Get better, tackle him.
Per the rules it literally doesn't matter - people need to stop ignoring the rules at play here whether you agree with them or not

Consistency is the key. I saw it twice this weekend and neither was called. One, in fact, was a peace sign in the face of a defender by a Pitt TE 5 yards from the end zone. Referee standing right there. It was blatant, yet no call. Only difference on the play?

They’ll change this rule in a few years likely. Rules change. In the meantime it was the interpretation by the ref and within the rules. But we’ve seen the peace out sign not be called. So, not irrelevant.
It's a taunting penalty per the rules & since it happened during the course of a play the TD was called back - this is the rule.

It’s against the rules but not always called or not called consistently (kind of like speeding). So, most of the time you’ll get away with it but you should just deal with it if you get called out because you broke the rule. If you want zero risk, don’t do it.

Screaming racism at every turn is a really dumb look

We get it. We’re saying it’s a rule that should be looked at to see if the penalty is what it should be. Well, the royal we. Er…I.
That's fine & I don't agree with teh rule but to keep complaining about the rule being called as it is written weeks later is odd

That seems more of an injustice than Jimmy's. WTF?

Oh yeah? Do you want to explain, subjectively, why it was taunting?

Hint: if you can't do so, this is why the taunting penalty is stupid and unevenly applied.

I think taunting is any celebration which is directed at an opposing player. At least I think that's what differentiates taunting from celebrating.
