CU Depth Chart for RMS

With Moretti's physical challenges, are they possibly feeling that he would be better served as a Guard so that he can move within a smaller area, and save himself until he can fully recover and be the player he wants to be?
Not that McChesney's evaluation is the only way to look at things, but he has always viewed Moretti as a guard:
"That's what I preach to everyone in this room. If a coach can recruit you then say, 'When Moretti's healthy I'm gonna stick his a** at right guard and we're gonna run behind him, and I gotta find four other pieces to put around Moretti so our foundation is strong.' That's what I'm looking for, and that's what Jake is."

Cause it's out of left field. Feels like a test answer when you couldn't figure out the problem and in the last 5 seconds you write down your best guess
There's definitely some stuff on there that is not likely to relate to reality. For example, little Chev is not going to bust into this WR rotation as a true frosh.

Most telling on that depth chart, though, is it makes it very clear that we have a number of so-called "developmental" players who have been recruited over.

If Moretti's knee and foot are well enough for him to play a significant number of snaps at guard this season, it would be an overall win for the position group.

Yep. OL looks a lot better if Moretti is able to get the majority of snaps and Tonz is more of a rotation/ swing guy for the interior of the OL.

Ugh. This has been covered multiple times. If CU starts a 6'4" tackle, we will be the only P5 team that does so (that doesn't run triple option). Also, Sherman absolutely has more length than Moretti.
Wait so a 6’4 tackle isn’t tall enough but a 6’3 tackle is?

The starting 5 on the OL are nothing new. That lineup has been known and talked about since Spring. The backups are interesting.

They probably really only entertain playing the 5 starters and 2 or 3 backups. Sherman, Morretti and possibly Kutsch. Morretti is fairly limited in that he can only play on the left side due to limitations imposed by his knee injury. Sherman looks like the first guy off the bench should either Tackle go down. Hopefully Kutsch is up to the task in case Lynott gets sore or has to move to Center.

I really doubt that Filip is ready to go. He just got out of a boot. Just a placeholder in name only but has apparently bypassed Vaughn. Ouch! Paige and Lytle - Double Ouch!

We need Filip and Kanan Ray to get ready for emergency duty later in the season.

What's Sherman listed at genius?

Believe I also said neither is a tackle?
I have seen both of them in person and moretti is quite a bit bigger so I don’t really care whAt they are listed at. Moretti is a legit 6’4-5, 300 pounds so he has the size to play tackle, the move to guard has nothing to do with his size.

Big and long are different things. Of course he is bigger, Sherman's weight was the reason for a whole thread just a week ago.

Depth chart is fine, looks like they are finally looking to play the best guy no matter what, and injuries make a player a little less effective, even if they are an older player, so next guy up. Getting to run up the score and play more guys is so important, and with the new Redshirt rule, it could be so valuable, and we have at least 2 chances to do it, if we are focused against CSU and NH. Come out hungry and fast, run up the score, give Montez some confidence and good stats, and then get ready for the Little Red. Landman feels like the next greatest CU Linebacker that could make a run at a Butkus!
Who didn't play that should have?

I've got a couple names in mind that are prob the same as you, but whom do you think are five guys that probably need to move on?

I'm not going to post anything like that on a public board. Wouldn't be fair to those young men.

It felt like based on articles about players who were in or out of practice that the competition was more intense than in the past, and talent rose to the top, and depth was showing up strong each time. I do not have a specific example, but it seemed that the next guy up was happening more naturally. Comments about Tony Brown and other receivers who are willing and able to step up makes me feel better. I am also happy to see Coach Els and the rest of the defensive staff being creative and aggressive with the talent.

The internet lore that became fact, MM doesn't play younger players.... I believe we owe Mr. Sparaco for that one. Some legends just become fact after awhile.

The numbers given to backups (often underclassmen) bears it out. MM has been extremely reluctant to play backups and tends to ride the starters until absolutely forced to make changes via injury.

Agree, but that's a different (and valid) point than he plays older guys who aren't better than the younger guys.

I think we’ll find out how good our 2 deep on defense is. Chev wanting to play with more tempo, coupled with their horrendous pass defense, we’ll see some short (time wise) drives and it will seem like our defense is on the field almost the whole game. Out of necessity we will have to play a lot of our 2 deep, it will be interesting to see what the drop off is.

Seems like Dmitri Stanley moves up because of Jaylon's status. Had really expected Jaylon to add a different dimension, hope he's back soon.

Mulumba goes from de-facto starter in 2017 with almost no experience, to co-backup (along with RS Frosh Lang). He didn't get worse, and he's a very hard worker. Last year at this time, he was much less ready than he is now after starting for a season. Our DL has to be better. Think it comes down to NT play now.

Rakestraw movin on up. Nice.

I'm curious if Lee is really moving from RB to slot receiver. I hope they get him some touches.
