CU Depth Chart for RMS

It felt like based on articles about players who were in or out of practice that the competition was more intense than in the past, and talent rose to the top, and depth was showing up strong each time. I do not have a specific example, but it seemed that the next guy up was happening more naturally. Comments about Tony Brown and other receivers who are willing and able to step up makes me feel better. I am also happy to see Coach Els and the rest of the defensive staff being creative and aggressive with the talent.
Lame. How are articles about practice indicative of anything since practices are, and have been, largely closed? Perhaps we are just now getting to a competitive talent level in recruiting that younger players actually are better than the upper class-men.

I wanna see if Izzy can project to NT next year. CU could be special up the middle with him, Landman and new JUCO LB.

Perhaps finally a real 3-4.

Not to say things can't change, but wasn't one of the big reasons that he switched to us was playing DE instead of NT? He feels better suited at DE, and Okie Lite wanted him at NT?

That is true. Sometimes you gotta do what is best for team.

Who will be NT next year?

I like Sami.
I could see MM being comfortable going into the season with those two as the only true NT on the roster. Tuiloma will get plenty of run this year and should provide that Senior presence and experience there, with Sami's high ceiling.

I watched the camp wrap-up that Brian Howell and Adam did-seemed like a great few weeks and they got a lot done. Not much in the way of bad practices......The .last time we were hearing this type of stuff out of fall camp-we beat CSU by 37.

I like Sami as well but very risky to count on a guy that big coming off a major knee injury. Hope he is fully healed but you can't tell until he plays a year on it.
One thing I've learned is that the P5 NTs don't grow on trees. Sami could actually be ready for late November from what I heard and would likely practice for sure at the end of this season, if things stay on track, would not be surprised to see him get a cup of coffee in November or a bowl game (in January heehee).

I'd love to see him get some action to build some confidence in the knee. Let him put the concern to rest and go into next season focused on his game.

You are right though, P5 NTs are less common than P5 programs. We may have to find some big guy who can eat up some space and take snaps even if he isn't able to do all we want him to do from the position.

Glad to hear Mr Israel, Izzy ain't here no more, Antwine earned the left d end spot. Super excited to see him and the other youngsters on defense

I think there's a good chance you see Frank Fillip play a little bit at LT. He's already moved into the #2 slot in half a camp and I think they'd really like to see him put down some tape for his development. Even in a close or tough game, would like to see him get some series.

Really hope we go super fast on O, sub a bit, and keep guys fresh for 4 quarters. Hope we see a rotations at WR as well. Would love to see 6-8 guys catch passes. But, all in all, just win!

Let’s hope not, we need to save his 4 games for late in the season if we have injury issues.

I think you have to get a true Frosh ready early and then hope you can redshirt him. Get him in vs CSU. Let him play UNH game in a significant way. Hold his last two games for emergency duty.

You don't want to thrust him into his first game with a conference game on the line. Sort of like Antwine, he could easily be in our "best player available" in a few weeks, especially if we have some injuries. Got to find out where he's at sooner than later.

Hasn't he spent a fair amount of time in a boot recently?

Yeah I completely disagree. I would much rather him have more than two weeks of practice reps and have him prepared for the end of the season/bowl game than to throw him in against two opponents who won’t really prepare him for anything he will see in conference play anyway. We have plenty of other guys to play in those early spots so we can save his games for later when we really have no choice as he is our 8th lineman.

This is what I would do with a position as critical as OT. The last four games (hopefully three against conference opponents and a bowl) are not likely to provide a lot of lower pressure opportunities to get a young guy time. We may be fighting for our season outcome in these.

Get him experience in a couple early games, have him ready. If it turns out that due to injury we need him to finish a season with more than a couple games then we are going to want him ready anyways, worth losing a RS year for the small likelihood that the injury timing would be right to need him the last 3 games instead of last 2.

OnealCD: I liked your post but I don't agree with it! But I think it's a good debate. I prefer to have a guy ready to go in (I sort of weighed in this way as a flaw of MM the last few years).

Anyone who is in our likely two deep should play early, even if we hope to redshirt. Find out what we got and what he can start really practicing. Get a couple games under his belt. Fillip is potentially a guy who plays a lot of snaps and I don't want those first snaps to come against Utah in the 4th quarter with something on the line.

He's been good for the last half of camp and is listed as the #2 at LT. He's 100% full go.

Doesn't mean he's necessarily the #2, as they likely move someone like Sherman or Moretti in there first. But clearly, they like him and it's not unreasonable to think he might be needed later. You might get Sherman and/or Moretti snaps first for that reason.

But this 4 game taste for Redshirt candidates is very intriguing!

I would agree with you if the two backups (moretti and Sherman) were viewed as full time starters but Filip is essentially one play away from a starting position as it sits right now since the coaching staff is platooning those guys. Those reps against CSU and UNH aren’t going to prepare him for much of anything in conference play as those front sevens are pretty damn bad. The closest he will be to preparing for late games is practice every day and the likelihood of us needing him for 4 games down the stretch is pretty high if you look at past seasons. You just simply can’t risk losing those two games and having to start Vaughn or someone else in those games which might be crucial to getting us to bowl eligibility.

I would also be more open to agreeing if he wa a full participant all of camp. That’s a quick turnaround for him to throw him in his first college game.

If you need him late, you play a more ready guy. The season is way more important than a redshirt. Heck, he could get hurt in year 3 and use that RS then.

Your valuation of playing in your first CFB games in front of a big crowd, on TV, are much lower than my valuation.

He is our 8th lineman so he is the most ready according to the staff and I agree the season is way more important than a redshirt, that is why those 4 games should be preserved until they need him to play and if they need him to play more than that they can use him. There is just no reason to not play this safe and the decision to play him will basically be made for the coaches. I also think preserving time for the bowl game is very important for these freshman, that gives the staff 15 practices to almost exclusively work with the young guys and get them meaningful snaps against a good opponent. Playing him early is a risky decision and I don't see coaches liking that route. I think it works well with some of your 3rd and 4th stringers but not a guy who is going to be counted on.
