Maybe - he’s already run the Vikings right? But he’s also likely to be over 60 whenever Goodell steps down and that might be a tad old if owners want the next person to hold the job for a decade or more. There’s only been like 3 NFL commissioners since the merger so hard to say what they look for. Tagliabue was a lawyer who was the NFL’s outside counsel. Goodell is basically an NFL lifer having started as an intern, but the guy he beat for the job in 2006 (Gregg Levy) was basically Tagliabue 2.0 - I think he’s even still the NFL’s outside counsel at the same firm Tagliabue worked for.
Wouldn’t be surprised if Goodell pushes for someone inside league offices (Troy Vincent, Brian Rolapp, etc) but who knows what teams will be looking for when the time comes.
I think there’s little doubt that the NFL will stay inside the NFL for the next commissioner, hence the reason I think Warren needs to get back in the league, and I also think they will prefer a black man. I don’t think it’s a slam dunk he gets the job, but I think if he’s back in the league for a few years he would be the front runner or a top 2-3 candidate.

Some might prefer a black man but this is still mostly old white billionaires who will choose the next Commissioner. Warren’s got an impressive resume but I wonder if his age will present an issue depending how long Goddell sticks around. My money is on Rolapp but I don’t really know.

I don’t see this happening without one of these leagues gaining a larger presence (beyond SC and UCLA) in the western time zones. Too many TV sets out west to ignore when establishing a super league.
The ratings for college football are already meh in most western markets. They don’t need western presence to make their league viable.
I’m not saying they do, but with CFB being cyclical, you’d think that some foresight might suggest they want to capture the PNW and Northern CA at a minimum. Those markets have a ton of talent and that matters.
Not for what they need to accomplish. The talent will go where the money is located. This is why getting one of the few remaining seats at the table is important for programs who want to compete ay the highest level.

ASU is more SEC than Zona.
I think I still prefer the B1G because of Nebraska (and some personal reasons with Wisconsin). I want CU to have a nationally relevant rivalry game that will generate 4m+ eyeballs every year. The SEC would probably be a little more ideal with Prime as HC and his recruiting foot print, and it would make for some awesome roadies, though.

SEC has fanbases that will travel to Boulder with authority and with it a serious economic boost, remember the UGA game? You reconnect with old rivals in Mizzou and OU, and more recent conf partners in UT and A&M. Nebraska is the only B1G connection, because we never really connected with UCLA or USC anyway. Nebraska can wither away alone. Road trips to the south east much preferred to the rust belt in the fall.

we have the facilities and now we have the coach. the pac is, for now, still a minimally viable conference. the playoffs are expanding. the next tv deal won't be as catastrophically awful as some predicted it would be.
and, we don't yet have to capitulate and run for shelter with the ****ing **** ****s of the big 12. ... at least not yet.
get everyone locked into the next pac deal as best as can be done and then work to build position for whatever happens after that. winning will cure a whole lot of our issues. clemson is the king of a dog **** conference and yet they are still a king and still one of the very few programs that consistently can produce at the elite level. better for us to rule in hell (pac) than serve in heaven (big).

If (when) the SEC expands again the question is will they go outside their current footprint or not. If they decide to stay within their current footprint then there are some obvious choices like Clemson and FSU, maybe Miami and GT. Outside their current footprint UNC is probably their best option and maybe UVA. When Sankey was asked about expansion last summer he was specifically asked about how important contiguous states are (we would technically meet that) and he said that like-minded universities were really what they were looking for. Which makes me wonder how much the lack of a baseball program would deter the SEC from having interest in CU, unless maybe an invite came with the caveat that we have to bring back our baseball program within a certain period of time.
