CU has rejoined the Big 12 and broken college football - talking out asses continues

re: ESPN incentives... if the ACC breaks up, they're left with nothing but the XII and G5 conferences. They have large incentive to keep the ACC together (i.e. help avoid the 'nuclear option' that FSU seems to pursuing)

that being said, I don't have a picture in my head of how the details work out
They're left with the entire SEC, half the Big 12 and G5.

Regardless, for ACC to merge with Pac, the Pac would need a media deal and GOR that satisfies the ACC members. 100% Apple isn't it and ESPN isn't interested in the Pac. ESPN has no incentive to tell both conferences, "if you merge, we'll come to the negotiating table and give you an equal deal to what the ACC is currently getting", which will ultimately keep the ACC teams from doing anything.

you're right about the SEC -- I forgot about them

For the ACC to merge with the Pac:

1. ESPN would have to decide it wants to pay each ACC school more money than it has them contracted for through 2035 AND that they also want to pay Pac members that same money even though they've had tepid interest in buying Pac inventory at less than they're paying the ACC.

2. Alternately, 8 ACC members vote to disband the conference and all of them decide to stick together along with 8 Pac members to form a new national conference that will get paid AND all 16 commit to a GOR instead of entertaining SEC & B1G opportunities.

Slam dunk!

acknowledging the snark, I think #2 could happen if 8 ACC members contractually agree to make their votes to disband the ACC atomic with a decision to form a new conference together; i.e. it doesn't have to a vote to disband followed by a consensus decision to join in a new conference. Someone please correct me if what I described isn't possible.

This morning's roller coaster must have been a real gut punch for OSU and WSU fans to think they had hope and then end up facing a oblivion again a couple of hours later. My guess is they have probably offered a fair amount of their shares to UW and UO to get them to stay at this point.

this is the sort of wrinkle I've been envisioning when I keep pointing out that NONE of these conference GoR's have been tested in a court of law.

Maybe some of Allbuff's General Counsel can explain whether or not this is a realistic example of how the GoR could be nullified or weakened by court rulings.

In the early 90s, when they were both in SoCal radio, Rome used to make fun of him mercilessly. Rome’s impression of “Smacksaw” was good stuff.
What was it? The Mighty 690? Rome was pretty funny back in the day, before he got big. Hamilton cracked me up, he was such a goofball. Early 90'a SD was a lot of fun.

There's also this:

I'm no expert, but sovereign immunity generally does not apply to contracts. I will leave it to the AB judiciary to elaborate further.

oh, damn! I missed that

yes, first time, AFAIK

I would think Arizona has to be ready to announce their move to the Big 12 ASAP.

Once they & AZ BOR slaps some sense into ASU's president.

I can only imagine how things would be if CU & CSU were under the same BOR.
