CU has rejoined the Big 12 and broken college football - talking out asses continues

There's some speculation that if Calford join the ACC that the Big 12 would take OSU & WSU. They would bring all Pac-12 assets with them such as the PACN studios & the network, production studios & app which would allow the Big 12 to package & sell additional content to a 3rd party (since Fox is not willing to pay any escalators at this time for new members).

This house of cards is not going to be able to stand too much longer

serious question, but do you know who gets the Pac 12 debt in this situation?

Someone needs to do the whole superimpose the P12/B12 etc logos on this one

They aren’t high in prestige enough to even be thought of even though they probably bring in better tv ratings.
Neither are Stanford and Cal, dude. This is all about the ACC trying to get so big they can stay together once the big 2 start taking them apart.

Not sure if relevant with the Buccees talk . .

Awesome. Our entrance into the B12 is now vindicated, and verified by the wonderful student athletes of the University of Utah.

The Buc’ees food offerings look delicious, healthful, and life sustaining.

Thank you JayHawk. Hope to make it out to Lawrence one day for an OOC basketball game.

Not a very good look for the conference: WVU cuts 32 programs, no more foreign languages. Sad stuff.

Could this be a trend? I’d bet money on a lot of schools becoming smaller in the next 15 years.

Among institutions of higher learning, there have been discussions surrounding the “college enrollment cliff”, which is set to begin around 2027 or so, which coincides with the birth years at the start of The Great Recession. Fertility in the United States dropped around 2009 and never really recovered. Of course, the Covid years were even worse.

Among elite institution, the demand will be there. Flagship state schools like CU will still have demand. It will be rough for regional public colleges, awful for community colleges, and Armageddon for less than elite private colleges.

Specific to West Virginia University, my understanding is that they acquired a couple of dozen hospitals over the last number of years, which is costly. They are switching to more of a healthcare focus and away from humanities. This is not uncommon. CU has actually struggled to enroll and fund several programs as well. As a History major, I get updates regularly from the department newsletters.

I remember stopping at the gofer foods convenience store in Craig Colorado on our annual trek to my grandparents house. The logo is kinda similar. Wonder if it’s the same company

It’s the B12 not the P12, this **** doesn’t matter in the B12.

The shuttering of more niche degrees and departments isn't that much of a surprise. Universities at the end of the day are businesses and consumer preferences dictate what is kept around. Programs with a more limited appeal moving to specialized institutions are likely to escalate as demographics lower college applicants and internet-based delivery becomes even more of a norm. A shift away from the humanities is a long-standing one due to the employment market favoring STEM for decades at this point in high-paying positions.
