So maybe the conference should have just banned Stanford from the CCG and gone from there, lol.

Really? Pickpockets have pretty much died out in NYC since people stopped carrying cash.
Yes. It amounts for half the reported crime in the city with roughly 130k reported cases a few years ago. NYPD had approx 3.6k reported cases in New York in February 2024.
But then, tbh, I never really had NYC or any US city down as being notorious for pickpockets and certainly not on the same scale as Paris, BCN or Rome. It'd make sense that NYC is the US hotspot due to a) the best subway system in the country and b) as it's the most visited city in the country, but I think that (international) tourism is a far bigger factor in the 3 cities I mentioned as they're smaller than NYC plus there are more (international) tourists than people who actually live there.
I saw a man catch a lady pickpocket trying to steal his wife’s wallet from her purse in Barca. He nearly broke the pickpocket’s hand!
