He’d have to start smaller than that.Where? Who is going to pay him more than $600k to do that? That's Alabama assistant coach money and he isn't going to a blue blood program in that capacity
There are plenty of programs in the SEC/big 10 and other bigger programs that pay a lot for the additional recruiting coordinator title. Kentucky pays their te coach and recruiting coordinator 900k.Where? Who is going to pay him more than $600k to do that? That's Alabama assistant coach money and he isn't going to a blue blood program in that capacity
The problem is that it took forever to decide to go and then line up and run the play. If you're going to run QB sneak on 3rd and 2 with the intention of going for it on 4th with the same play call, ala what Tom Brady has been doing for decades, you have to line up and just go immediately. Once it was taking the same amount of time as a normal play, they should have called TO and just ran an actual play.I hope he realizes that while some may have legitimate questions about whether it was smart to go on fourth down deep in aTm territory, the much bigger issue with that play sequence was lining up and running the exact same play again. aTm saw the formation, knew the play was coming, filled the gaps and blew the play up.
That’s stupid arrogance on the part of Chev, and HCKD, if they truly believed that would work against the athletes across the line from your athletes. That might have worked in 2001, but with the athletes CU has today on the OL, forget about it. They do not have the talent to play straight up, man on man with a top 10 team and expect to win a majority of those battles. Not a wise risk calculation at that juncture and it was very costly, indeed.
Basically, see Oregon’s play calling on 4th downThe problem is that it took forever to decide to go and then line up and run the play. Vince Marrow has been there since 2013 and also carries the AHC title as well. Chev isn't getting that treatment anywhere. There are plenty of programs in the SEC/big 10 and other bigger programs that pay a lot for the additional recruiting coordinator title. whoever the new coach at USC is would be smart to do the same with chev (obviously if he is willing to get back into the recruiting game again).
With all the behind the doors whining and frustration we heard about coming from Chev after he didn't get the head gig here, I don't see him taking a demotion and staying here. And even if he did, he doesn't strike me as the kind of guy that's going to put that much effort into recruiting again. Seems to me he put in that hard work to get to this point as an OC, not because he enjoys it and has the passion for it. Chev could easily have been a Tosh Lupoi type coordinator that used the coordinator promotion to IMPROVE his recruiting even if he's a mediocre or worse coordinator. Chev just straight up stopped recruiting. That doesn't scream passion to me.Would Chev rather take a demotion back to WR coach/recruiting coordinator, rather than go somewhere else to do the same thing? Doubtful, but I think his options may be limited at this point, and he does provide good value for this program if he humbles himself and takes on his primary recruiting role again.
Adequately defending the QB sneak is the same as defending 4th and Goal from the half yard line.I don't watch that much CFB other than Buff games. But how many college QBs are taking snaps from under center? Very few from my game-watching. Could be that CU thought that teams can't adequately defend the QB sneak because they don't really practice defending offenses not in the shotgun or pistol.
In the PAC, 2 teams (Stanford and Utah) have a good amount of under center packages as far as I can tell. In the B1G it's a bit more common. Otherwise, most teams don't but if their reasoning for running a sneak 2x in a row is because they thought an SEC defense wouldn't be able to adequately defend it, then Chev and Dorrell are absolute idiots lol.I don't watch that much CFB other than Buff games. Then he'll either need to move to the NFL or accept a low level coordinator role because nobody is hiring a guy like him who doesn't recruitWith all the behind the doors whining and frustration we heard about coming for Chev after he didn't get the head gig here, I don't see him taking a demotion and staying here. Really cool angle, where'd you find these?Adequately defending the QB sneak is the same as defending 4th and Goal from the half yard line.
This is essentially a 4 on 3 in favor of A&M

And really a 2 on 1 vs Pursell where they are significantly lower than all three of our IOL.

I think chev could easily get one of those jobs. Stanford also pays well (no I don’t think he is going to stanford) and salaries are only going up every year. It is **** on chev week here but he is an amazing recruiter and if he has to go back to that he would be in high demand. He carried recruiting here with limited recourses and was still able to land good players with little help from the other staff members. Even if he didn’t get 600k he would be right there.Vince Marrow has been there since 2013 and also carries the AHC title as well. Chev isn't getting that treatment anywhere.
Spot checking assistant salaries in 2020 and here are a list of programs and their number of non-coordinators making over $600k. USC doesn't report, so maybe they pay more and maybe Chev has enough CA ties to go there and be RC for more $$, but he isn't getting that job in SEC or B1G and the Pac 12 doesn't pay enough outside of Oregon and USC.

This seems to be the real KD:
Oh my god a Clayton handoff jump over the pile right there……Really cool angle, where'd you find these?
He'd have to be viewed in the same light by the big time programs as Tosh was, but Tosh was a much better recruiter at multiple Pac 12 programs.I think chev could easily get one of those jobs. Tosh was never at a program like CU though, I am sure other staffs around the country respect what chev did as a recruiter here. Tosh also blatantly cheated his ass offHe'd have to be viewed in the same light by the big time programs as Tosh was, but Tosh was a much better recruiter at multiple Pac 12 programs.
He was at Cal to start his career. Better location than CU for recruiting, but not significantly different w/r/t the difficulty of recruiting relative to the rest of the conference.Tosh was never at a program like CU though, I am sure other staffs around the country respect what chev did as a recruiter here. Cal was a wayyyy different program when he was there though. Coming off the high of tedford and in a way better spot than Cu.He was at Cal to start his career. Why not include Hagan in the group? It’s been discussed in other threads, but Chev as OC/WR coach and Langsdorf as QB coach is very cumbersome, especially when you have seemingly incongruous offensive styles among them, and a head coach with a west coast offense background. Seems like we are all over the map, without a specific identity. If Dorrell makes a move in the offseason, seems like he would have to re-tool the entire offensive staff, except Hagan.

A pro style, pocket passing QB coach, an Air Raid style OC/WR coach, and a Spread, Dual Threat QB.It’s been discussed in other threads, but Chev as OC/WR coach and Langsdorf as QB coach is very cumbersome, especially when you have seemingly incongruous offensive styles among them, and a head coach with a west coast offense background. I’m not making the case that Hagan is untouchable (and I like Hagan for a variety of reasons going back to college). However, he has shown that he is an adaptable staff member over the years. Why not include Hagan in the group?
I don't think you force staff on people. "You have to interview him, but if he's not a fit or you have someone better than we'll figure out another role for him" is an entirely reasonable position to take. "Must keep X in Y role" is, and always has been dumb.
But I do think you're right. It's probably time for a wholesale change; go ahead and let a strong up and comer audition for a HC job somewhere else. Having someone come in and run the show on that side of the ball and kick some ass doing it then get hired away to a HC somewhere else would be an absolutely fantastic result.
I'll play my role and stick up for Hagan once again. When was the last time the Buffs had a noticeable dip in RB production under Hagan? Pre Phil Lindsay? Why not include Hagan in the group?
