That’s my concern as well but I’m having some trouble reconciling why this is a bigger concern with PT than any other candidate.Deion in Boulder would be amazing, but it would be amazing for 1 year before he moves onto somewhere bigger and we are back to square one again
This is where I am at. The worst that can happen has already happened so why not take a shot. Looking at j state and their schedule I am a lot less impressed with that program than before but why not give him a shot. You take a chance on a guy like Deon every time at a School like CU because he has McCartney potential in recruiting. You're not finding that with any other coach available to CU.
This is a little different than, "CU is interested in Deion Sanders".With the resources Colorado could offer, Sanders has mapped out a plan to recruit nationally to Boulder.
The amount of money he would generate for the football program would be astronomical compared to what they are getting now.IF it is true that donors really want Prime and IF it is true that he’s gotten to the business plan discussion phase, then RG and Saliman MUST find the money. They cannot lose Prime.
Getting his assistants paid seems like a major part of the sell. What is your thought on an all JSU staff coming to Boulder?IF it is true that donors really want Prime and IF it is true that he’s gotten to the business plan discussion phase, then RG and Saliman MUST find the money. You let him pick every single one. I don’t care if he brings all high school coaches. That being said JSU staff isn’t bad. There’s a few that aren’t real accomplished yet but if you believe in him as a coach/recruiter you have to believe in his ability to identify good coaches.Getting his assistants paid seems like a major part of the sell. Nobody is paying non-coordinators $1m, but to your broader point, paying JSU assistants may be part of the deal to get Prime. Bigger programs may not have to accept that, but CU almost certainly has to agree to Prime's terms. And no, USF isn't outbidding CU if CU really wants him.Simply paying, say, $1M for assistants that used to make $300K doesn't suddenly make them 3X the coaches. That's what MM2 did. Unless they're truly worth that much - maybe because others are wanting to poach them and pay them $1M. If we're going to throw more money at assistants, it should go towards better assistants.
It would be shamefully bad if USF outbids CU.
Yeah the way I look at it is if you choose Prime, you are going all in on recruiting as much elite talent as possible and shelving the "teacher"/"developer" method. Basically, you're going after Deion Sanders. He is the draw. The assistants are almost irrelevant from a recruiting standpoint if Deion is backing them. You let him pick every single one. Kinda get the sense one of the assistants would stay and take over as the HC and maybe keep a few of the others. You let him pick every single one. I don’t care if he brings all high school coaches. My feeling is that Colorado is not in a position to dictate staff hires on either side. Prime is a pro. If somebody is not up to snuff, he will find an upgrade.Getting his assistants paid seems like a major part of the sell. What is your thought on an all JSU staff coming to Boulder?
I’d agree to some extent. Deion is very bright and i don’t see him just having a bunch of his buddies on staff. If those guys aren’t recruiting and getting the most out of the players i don’t see him keeping them around. I think he absolutely thinks his staff can teach/developYeah the way I look at it is if you choose Prime, you are going all in on recruiting as much elite talent as possible and shelving the "teacher"/"developer" method. Didn’t this already happen at Jackson? I seem to recall reading something about him firing one of his buddies who was a coordinator because he was meeting Deion’s standards. My feeling is that Colorado is not in a position to dictate staff hires on either side.
