Games thread- Men's bball at Vegas Tourney- scheduled to face Washington (Sunday, 12/20, 8:00 PM MT) and Grand Canyon U. (Tues., 9:00 MT)

GCU has a tough team there. They know how to play to their strengths. CU was just better. McKinley was amazing. Eli is an elite defender. Home doesn't need much space to get that jumper off, he hit some big time shots. Did Jabari even play in the 2nd Half? The dude has skills as a Frosh. Get him in Tad. Buffs will be tough to beat if Battey has a good game.
Tad mentioned Jabari not getting much PT and wants that to change but it was just sort of the nature of tonight’s game. So he’s definitely aware.

Jabari got his minutes cut short a bit by getting in foul trouble in the first half. He, Battey, and Dallas all had 2 PFs in the first half, that's why we saw Strating at the close of the first half, in which his only box score contribution was a foul and a defensive board.

Dallas has 19 fouls in 119 minutes, and Jabari has 15 in 88 minutes.

They're averaging 6.6 and 6.8 fouls per 40 minutes respectively.

I think we're going to see a couple games where that becomes a problem.

I fell asleep at the first break in the 2nd half last night. 1st thing I did when I woke up was turn on ESPN to hopefully get a score and what immediately came up was Kin getting his shot blocked on a TOP TEN play. Had me worried.

Good to see Evan start to get things going. Also great to see an excellent shooting night from 3pt range spread out among a bunch of guys who gained a bit of confidence -- also means the offensive flow was working when it's not just 1 or 2 guys doing volume shooting. Kin had a good night as a floor general and it looked from the stats like Key settled into the role we need in the 2nd half instead of forcing things.

The stretch from 10 to 6 minutes left in the game was pretty solid. I think it was Bartthelemy, Parquet, Horne, Daniels, and Battey on the floor. Key and Maddox both hit big shots, and we kind of just held serve with a small lead before Kin came back in. Key was the steady hand we needed and Eli played his typical stellar defense.

Great game. Some past years we nave have folded. GC would compete well in the PAC12. It took all we had to win. Battey and Parquet (took zero shots!) stood out to me as defenders. The team seems to have great chemistry, sharing the ball, talking on D, etc. I give credit to Kin and of course Tad for his coaching and recruiting unselfish players. Once Kee gets more consistent on his shooting he is a valuable piece we didnt have last year. Like others posting, i am really sppreciating Horne, a perfect fit.

Did anyone happen to catch that graphic last night about our defensive efficiency? It was during the first half I think. I was at a Christmas party watching but forgot to record.

This team looks to be one of the best in Boyle's time at CU. They are really dedicated to each other and play with a lot of confidence.

Last night they repeatedly held off runs by GCU and didn't wilt under the relentless physical presence of the 'Lopes front line. Of course McKinley hit key shots but he wasn't alone. Horne hit some massively important shots in the second half. One was a trey where he caught the ball then looked like he was going laterally which really threw off the defender and left him with plenty of space to get the shot off. It was an NBA caliber move.

Another key was the play of Barthelemy for a period of what seemed like 4 minutes or so in relief of Wright. He led the team like a veteran by playing under control and thinking team first. When Wright returned he was fresh and was able to be highly effective down the stretch. If he can continue to do this it will help the team in that Wright won't get worn down over the course of the course of the season.

I didn't expect that this year. We don't have great length. This is all about individual & team fundamentals plus effort. Crazy impressive. We haven't had it come together in that way since the run at the end of Nate's senior year.
If we can finally get the Tucson monkey off our back, it should be a great season. TR is a bunch of data nerds, but they know their stuff.
