Games thread- MEN'S BBall hosts #5 Houston (Sat., 2/8/24; 2:00 PM MT; ESPN+) and visits #16/17 Kansas (Tuesday, 7:00 PM MT; ESPN or ESPN2)

I'm assuming the reason why all these Houston fans aren't tubbos is because they live in Colorado?

#11 tipping rebounds out like a bitch is driving me nuts. I hated the ****ers who did that when I played.

Real opportunity with Sharp out today, too.

I don't think we have an answer for him, so nice not have to deal with a 210 lb bull of a SG who shoots 45% from 3.

Running out of control, throwing up a shot, and getting it blocked can get you 2 free throws in the Big 12. Alright then.

Jak has killed us tonight. Absolutely astonishing that Tad keeps going back to him.

Mother****ing #4 faked an injury so that the refs could get together and talk about reviewing the call.

Every time we are in it late, I get hope we will pull one out. And then we just **** the bed offensively to put it out of reach. I’m just going to resign myself to us going winless the rest of the way

Boyle really whiffed big time in the portal. Malone and Baskin have been major disappointments.

I wouldn’t say next year looks much better either.

I knew we weren't going to win, but it was still disappointing to see how we went down at the end.

If you want to be somewhat successful next season the only players you work to keep are: Dak, Rancik and Ruffin. The players you tell you hope they stay are: Smith, Baskin, and Diop. The players you push out of the progam are: Malone, Anderson, Kosarras, and Crawford. You take Carrington off scholarship.

We have 5 Frosh coming in. All are good enough not to RS. That leaves only 8 other scholarships. Those should be:
Dak
Rancik
Ruffin
Baskin
Diop
TRANSFER #1
TRANSFER #2
TRANSFER #3

End of story.

CU had exactly one advantage against UH - height. We have 3 guys in the rotation taller than anyone they put on the floor - Rancik, Malone, and Dak. It's infuriating that this coaching staff didn't come into this game with a plan to work on that all game long. It still might not have won the game, but it was our only chance.

15 years in, and Boyle is still in over his head.

I was really impressed with Rancik's defense today. I think Houston was taken aback by it. They tried to attack him a couple of times early and he flat stoned them.

Speaking of the defense though - the fact that they would go 30 seconds of solid defense, force Houston into a bad shot, then give up the offensive rebound was so deflating. Both for the team and the arena. The possession where they forced 3 bad shots only to give up 3 offensive rebounds and eventually a 3 pointer took the crowd from getting ready to erupt to dead silence.

They only got 21 rebounds in the entire game. Houston had 13 offensive rebounds for crissakes.

Height only matters so much. We got outrebounded 36-21. If you were suggesting that we should have gone inside more, I don't think you would have liked the results.

Houston got after it on the boards. Just more tenacity than we have. At times it looked like a Varsity vs JV scrimmage.

I’ll scream this from the top of Flagstaff: FIRE THE FVXKING S&C STAFF. We are the weakest and softest team in the conference every year.
Tad's postgame comments included that he told the guys in the locker room after the game that when they are working out Monday or Tuesday or this offseason, they need to be thinking about this Houston team and game.

Sure. He's right.

But why the hell does it seem like this is up to the individual players? It should be an S&C coach and program with an individual plan for each player with mandatory training that's part of being a CU MBB athlete - but it doesn't sound as if it's that.

Versus today's game plan? I'm no BB guru, but I cannot tell you what that was. Seems like it comes down to relying on heroics from Hammond; there is no backup plan.

Probably could have played some more 2-man iso to get some post ups. That's been kind of lost in the game these days. Problem for this year's Buffs with that, though, is that it's really a triangle concept. We don't have that outlet from an overplay help defender who can make a team pay for that with a cut & drive to the rim.
