Folsom.

So much work to do.
I don't know if I'll get ripped for this or not, but I'm going to be brutally honest.

The CU campus is one of the most beautiful in the country. The city of Boulder is one of the best college towns in the country. The setting and views for this campus and city is one of the best in the country.

As far as the stadium and gameday experience, I don't have much positive to say. Tailgating and pre-gaming in Boulder are pretty weak. Seating, amenities, sound, video boards and concessions at Folsom are below average. And it's a very small capacity P5 stadium that rarely sells out.

Put that same stuff anywhere else and Folsom would be consistently rated one of the worst college game spots in the country. However, with the location stuff plus the Ralphie running tradition it ends up being rated among the top college experiences.

And this is what drives me crazy. What we have that is special is so ridiculously over-the-top special that we rest on that and neglect the other stuff.

I did vote "B", but only because I think that kicking up the tailgating atmosphere and the athletics culture on campus is both needed and do-able. Besides that, I don't think that Folsom needs small patches and piecemeal projects. What Folsom needs is a renovation that will cost at least a hundred million, maybe 2x or 3x that.

Part of the problem is, overall, we have had a very lazy donor base. RG has turned this around, but it takes time to build some serious momentum.

Flat screens at each urinal; makes perfect sence with the addition of stadium wide beer sales.

This would be great until they showed a fusker highlight. At that point multiple users would aim up at the screen leading at least a couple to electrocute themselves and sue the university.

Upon hearing that it was fusker highlights that caused it the kNU athletic department would credit a couple of their linemen with knockdown blocks or tackles.

Wouldn't it be cool if you could leave the seats as is, but rebuild the base concrete and also create essentially Football Dugouts that have covered seating under the sunken area. There could be a padded wall in front of the dugouts at essentially the same place that the current wall is with intermittent openings. This would allow the teams to stay safer on the sideline, and would allow the field to be used for Soccer and Lacrosse.

I'm going out on a limb and saying that B should be taken care of since the cost of doing those now shouldn't be a big issue. Whatever Fix Folsom and The Keg needs, it's going to cost a bunch of money and it seems like it has been difficult to get those big ticket donations to CU athletics.

Has there ever been an injury caused by the proximity of the stands to the sideline?

I have always thought there could be, but I can’t ever recall it actually happening.

I recall an opposing RB sliding under the bench and nailing the wall in the 90s. Don't remember who.

IMO, Folsom is just old as **** and looks like it. Bringing it into the 21st century should be a priority in the same vein as getting the Champions Center and IPF built. Not as important for recruiting as those, but the stadium looks small time. CU needs the bells and whistles to remain competitive in recruiting and the stadium is part of that.

Sat next to some nice lady at the 50 yard line for the KSU game. Overheard her talking to her friend, about how she works with RG and is mainly focused on renovating Folsom and she kept talking about how beautiful it’s going to be.

This woman said they are closing the bowl on the northwest side. And she made it seem like an announcement is coming within a year.

She looked and sounded like she knew what she was talking about.

I know we have all heard the rumors and even seen plans for balch and the press box, but she was wholly focused on closing the bowl, she also made it seem like we might push for 60k capacity.

I wish they would put a clear coat over all the peeling paint.

It’s 100 years old and beautiful.

If you want a new stadium with plastic seat backs and private urinals, go to Canvas Stadium 50 minutes north.

You can’t buy history and tradition.

I really hope they consider widening the sidelines, even if it costs 3-5 rows along the field side. It is the worst part about the stadium, and I know for sure that those rows were added after the track was taken out, so there is not physical support in those areas.

replace those seats by closing the bowl and with a smart redo of the West Side and if we can be at 59k-60k, we good to go

I think increasing the capacity is a mistake. Even though we’re maxing capacity right now, prime won’t be here forever.

You can install seat backs and increase the luxury seating on the west side without ruining the history and tradition.

Not having enough student seats is the problem though, that has to be solved first, and then decide if 60k will do it

Press box and balch need to be #1 priority and fixed with a concourse on that side but you might as well do that bowl the lady was talking about at the same time because you are already over there doing work. Much much more expensive and complicated to keep doing it piece meal Going from 54k - 60k is totally doable and should be the goal. There is no reason we could ‘t sell 6k more seats with a consistent top 25 program. As a fanbase we’ve all been in a negative loser mindset for to long based off of some PTSD from 20years of ****ty football. We need to move on and capitalize on the momentum we have with Prime. Its time to get Folsom finished off and make it look and feel like the high standard that all the other buildings on campus are held to.

BYU has the largest stadium in the Big 12 with 63,470 capacity. If we're going to do a stadium project and spend the kind of money that it takes to do this, we should come out the other side with the marketing hook for the CU brand of "biggest stadium in the Big 12". Always be the best.

Increasing room on CU’s sideline would be good, IMO, but leave the opposing sideline as is. It being uncomfortable and having fans right on top of the opposing team should be the goal.

I think a 65k seat stadium would be perfect. Close the bowl and put the opposing fans in that corner and increase regular and premium seating on the West side.

It’s unlikely to cost significantly more than whatever renovation they’re already going to do over there, so even if the Prime Effect is over in 5 years or whatever and attendance goes down, they aren’t going to lose much money if they only fill 75% of the stadium down the road.

this... go to 65 and call it good

They could sell primo tickets and experiences with a new Flatirons structure.
