BYU has the largest stadium in the Big 12 with 63,470 capacity. If we're going to do a stadium project and spend the kind of money that it takes to do this, we should come out the other side with the marketing hook for the CU brand of "biggest stadium in the Big 12". Always be the best.
I don’t think the Big12 is going to be around long enough for that to actually sink in.

I’m one to believe in a total gut and rebuild. I’m sure that won’t happen. I say that for a couple of reasons.

First, the reinforced concrete structural system is 100 years old. I have to believe reinforcement is corroding and the structure is weakening.

Second, the facilities are dated. The restrooms, office spaces, press box, Balch, concourses, all of it is old and decrepit.

Third, the bleachers are cold, crammed and uncomfortable. Speaking of the fight song, maybe the bleacher seating inspired “shoulder to shoulder!”

Finally, the concessions are just a hodgepodge of disorganized, thrown together, inefficient junk.

There is so much SF under the stands, especially the South side, with old offices, storage, etc that is not activated with restrooms and concessions, it is terrible.

Fix the sidelines, this is something that benefits the team, player safety, and since we are such a place to be, more room for celebrities. Would be cool to have like a dugout feel to it with a cover
kick some ass on the West Side with a good press box linear, and lots more seats all the way around the corner of the bowl
Gut the south end interior and make things dynamic for restrooms and concessions.
60k is plenty, keep making things fun inside
Please redo all lights with new LED instant color changing lights

Finally, I want to see them make the COLORADO on the South Endzone Slope embedded with LED Lights, so that all the letters can be light activated, and that would be amazing. If you want to go really crazy, turn the entire curved end zone into an LED super board where you can do even more cool things

I think increasing the capacity is a mistake. Even though we’re maxing capacity right now, prime won’t be here forever.

You can install seat backs and increase the luxury seating on the west side without ruining the history and tradition.

Disagree. We still drew 40-45k during the last decade and the population of CO has at least doubled since the late 1980’s while the capacity has remained pretty much the same. It’s time to expand Folsom Field regardless of whether Coach Prime stays or not. I believe CU generally had better crowds as a member of the Big 12 than the PAC-12 because Big 12 fans are more passionate about sports as well.

COLORADO in LED would be wild and iconic 👍

I do recognize that, but in person sport viewership has been steadily declining for a while now because it’s a great experience at home without all the added cost.

There’s revenue sharing to be factored in. The more we earn through ticket sales the more we can pay the players.

It’s not like there are blackouts in college. If we only get 45,000 for FCS opponents or late season games when our record isn’t so great post-Prime, that’s fine.

The last 20 years has shown that our fans show up better than most during bad and really bad seasons. I think we’ll have no problem selling out most games post-Prime when we’re winning. I think 58,000 to 62,000 would be a good size.

Fair point, I didn’t even think about the revenue sharing aspect of it.

We are at a critical juncture in college football. Looking like we are moving towards a move to an elite top division, I'm thinking 30-45 teams with everyone else relegated to second class status (and money.)

If CU wants to be a part of the top group, and we are in no way guaranteed that we need to be looking at being competitive in all ways including stadium, not with the B12 but with those programs in the B1G, SEC, that we want to supplant and the ACC and other B12 programs we need to beat in the process.

And then hope that we get in and the whole thing doesn't end up collapsing on itself due to legal issues and/or the NFL deciding to run their own feeder/minor league.

Lower capacity stadiums are fine if the premium options exist. In an ideal world Folsom gets a renewal like the L.A. Memorial Coliseum and the long term issues are solved while maintaining its feel.

I watched the YouTube interview where they asked RG what is next. His answer was a vision for Balch followed by “next, someone will do something with the Events Center.” I surmise that, by that response, he does not plan on being around for that.

Also a nice gesture to the next AD to have a cornerstone project ready to go.

I wish they would put a clear coat over all the peeling paint.

It’s 100 years old and beautiful.

If you want a new stadium with plastic seat backs and private urinals, go to Canvas Stadium 50 minutes north.

You can’t buy history and tradition.

Folsom has a uniqueness to it that is unlike most others the way it's nestled into campus. We don't need a sterile stadium environment. Do Balch and the restrooms need some upgrades? Sure, go ahead and do something with the NW corner, that's fine and maybe even add some stands on the East side of Dal Ward next to the Champions Center. Upgrade the inside of Balch but whatever you do leave it standing. Between the inside of Balch, the SW plaza area and the East concourse there's plenty of room for concessions. Modernize and add seating where you can but don't lose the originality and charm of Balch and Folsom as a whole.

It’s time to get Folsom finished off and make it look and feel like the high standard that all the other buildings on campus are held to.
As an arts and sciences alum, I’m confused (or maybe offended, or maybe just sad). Over half of my classes were in Hellems and Ketchum. They never gave a **** about a lot of the buildings, lol. At least there’s been some renovations recently, but even in the 2000s, there was no AC and the rooms weee straight out of their 1950s updates with actual chalkboards and old school overhead projectors.

That said, yeah, I guess Folsom was even worse somehow, as I had a class in there. Worst classroom ever. Not ROTC, but a qualitative stats class. Luckily some rich classmates’ parents complained about the 100 degree plus temps in that Folsom room in September, and we eventually got moved to the basement of the geography building.

Ah, good times. Just taking issue with the “high standard that all other buildings are held to” as a student who was jealous of the other schools’ buildings on campus. That said, I like what you wrote and agree with you!

The other buildings on campus are part of the general operating and facilities budget for the University. Folsom and the CEC are not.

Filling in the bowl seems easy and makes sense. Do not, ever, move the sidelines
some people think showing first time Folsom goers ralphie or the flatirons is the best part

Real ones know taking them to the sidelines to dap up players and smack helmets is the best part. No one expects the sidelines to be THAT close.

It’s awesome

Within my remaining lifetime, Folsom will remain what it is today. I may possibly live to see Balch renovated. BUT THEY’D BETTER HURRY!! 🤣

From a safety perspective, it makes sense. The close sidelines makes Folsom so awesome. Don't f it up if you don't have too.

I can't recall a single time in the 30 years I've gone to games where a player was hurt because of the short sideline. I'm sure there have been some injuries but likely nothing major otherwise there would have been a big stink about it.
