It was asphalt of some kind and not concrete. Thats why it was uniform and didnt have check lines. Concrete slabs that big will have to have expansion joints.
My guess would be they are just replacing it and probably improving drainage along the way.

I want LED lights embedded in the letter outlines so it can be part of a light show so we could have any level of better in game experience.

Won't. We've had it before and she did just fine. Current Ralphie "ran" on turf at the bowl game.
Turf has less of an impact than the particular Ralphie's

@UnitedTurfnTrak had these same pictures up on their X feed (I'm guessing that's where you got these from) but they took down the post. I don't think that means anything but it's odd that they took it down.

A little disappointed. I greatly prefer the look of turf fields with a single shade of green instead of the alternating bands. The bands look so much more artificial. I guess I’ll have to get used to it.
But the new “COLORADO” looks great and should hold up much better than the asphalt.
I like the black & gold end zones, but would rather have the turf be one shade. Looks like bullshvt Oregon does.
I remember seeing images of a Balch fieldhouse renovation that included open concourse that looks into Folsom. I can't find them anymore. Anyone else see them or know how to find them?
I think those were done when Bohn was AD. Iirc, they got circulated again after RG took over. But those are old. I know they were posted on this site, but if you can find them the links could be dead.
Yep. It’s been very noticeable in certain pictures but less noticeable in person from what I remember
