Official 2016 Coaching Carousel Thread - How safe is Kevin Sumlin´s job?

The difficulties in finding an OC for Texas might stem from the candidates noticing that more than once in the last 5 - 6 years or so the designated OC has not finished the year as the OC. I also saw some speculation on one of their boards that one of the factions that wants Strong gone might be trying to sabotage things behind the scenes to push their agenda. Gotta love Texas drama...

It's friggin' hilarious to me that it took this much effort for Texas to hire a co-OC from a G5 staff to be full OC at UT.

Texas: It took the President of the University, the AD, the head football coach and others to go to Tulsa last night; but UT wound up getting their guys. Sterlin Gilbert is coming as offensive coordinator and Matt Mattox will be the new offensive line coach at UT.

Wow that's crazy, I know the guy but coaching and playing are two different things. If he's never called plays, that's risky.

Read the most recent posts - apparently the Tulsa guy is still in play. So much so the university PRESIDENT is flying to TULSA to land him.
Bad state of affairs when the UT prez is kneeling to the TULSA OC. Wow.

Well, when rumor has it you can't affirm Charlie Strongs future to said you recruit you have a huge ****ing problem (look in the mirror) no matter what.

The hubris of those **** sticks makes this all the more entertaining. May they rot in their little conference with their ideas about how ****ing more important they are then every thing else.

The emotion he was showing at the end of the game sure made it seem like he knew he had coached his last game as Navy's head coach. It was like he knew that BYU would be able to put up cash that Navy couldn't match, and that it would be so much that he couldn't turn it down.

I really like Sitake. Time will tell, but I think BYU made a mistake here if they went with K-lo. Radio speculation is that offensive skill guys from this recruiting class and the current QB's are not pleased. I wonder if the BYU fans look back at Bronco like Nebraska looks at Bo and say they didn't know how good they had it.

I just don't think BYU is in position to compete on salary with a P5. They would have been happy if Bronco had stayed, but they weren't going to double their pay scale to keep him.

BYU can pay. It's just a matter of whether they chose to. As a non member living here I find it a bit strange. They will pay for amazing facilities, but want their employees to work for half the going rate because it's a calling. They constantly say that athletics is a huge missionary tool, but Bronco allegedly doubled his salary to leave. Now the numbers being floated to replace him seem to be higher than what Bronco got to leave. Of course all of the numbers floated about K-lo could be made up internet garbage.

As somebody at my office pointed out, when BYU pays a coach, they know that they will get 10% back. You'd think they could afford to be a bit more generous in that case.

I remember trying to sell software to BYU many years ago and they were visibly shocked that my company had the nerve to ask them for money to acquire it.

Good read from InsideTexas on the Texas OC debacle and other juicy schadenfreude.

What a mess. What a beautiful mess. I kind of feel bad for Charlie Strong though. Those of you who said Texas would never get behind a black coach who didn't take a knee before the donors, pat yourself on the back now.

There are a lot of coaches I wouldn't mind this crap happening to and he is not one of them. 100% class and deserves better.

heh. Shortbus!!

However, what makes this even more frustrating is that Strong was warned by the former AD (and this publication) that bringing in Shawn Watson initially would result in offensive disaster. And the disaster of 2015 was certainly offensive, netting Watson a demotion after the first game of the season and an embarrassing scarlet letter of a lost spring and August for a team and an offense that can’t afford to waste time in a rebuilding period.

The booger strikes again. He has left a path of destruction wherever he has gone. Amazing how some guys manage to remain employed.

Then that much more credit to Barnett who was within sniffing distance of a NC with booger running the O.

Not so fast on the Navy's Niumatalolo leaving for BYU...

FootballScoop:
BYU: Regarding Ken Niumatalolo, BYUtv’s Dave McCann tweets, “Barring a dramatic turnaround, it appears the captain of the ship ... is staying on the ship.”

Arkansas OL coach Sam Pitman took the same job at Georgia. Bielema took his OL to Pitman's house to try to change his mind. I wonder if barry did that when he left Wisconsin.
