Official 2016 Coaching Carousel Thread - How safe is Kevin Sumlin´s job?

But but these guys are robbing us blind getting huge non-WAC paychecks. Its unfair i hate this staff because the get paid so much.

Oh wait what it that you say they were never paid above middle of the road and now we are back to last?

BUT BUT NEinas

Just goes to show that people can say we are swimming in the deep end now and keeping up with the big boys, but in reality we have just stuck our toes in the water.

So every year they win 7 games and the APR is above a certain numebr Dykes gets a year extension? That could be risky.

Especially if he is in control of scheduling the OCC - seems like a Mike Bohn contract

If you measure it per conference victory, I suspect that MacIntyre is the highest paid.

Agreed - that whole approach of some of our fans that disliked this staff from the start because we were paying them 4x what they were making before always irked me. Market when we signed these guys was 2mil a season getting pissed off about someone getting paid mid-market just because they made less before its some of the most jealous childish reasoning i have ever seen.

Being annoyed because the staff couldn't cut it is one thing, suspecting that their experience before might not lead to the same results this time is certainly fair - but the number of times i saw people write and heard people bitch because Mac used to make 400k and took a job at fair market was unbelievable.

The assistant coaching salary pool is 8th in the conference.

I didn't really care what they got paid, but we paid middle tier for a bottom tier staff, that was the problem. If Mac didn't have the money from CU to get himself a decent staff, I'd have given him a break on the initial staff. Instead, he gave Toby mother****ing Neinas above market rate and gave a multiyear contract to Baer who literally nobody wanted. DUMB.

I don't recall anyone really caring what Mac was paid, seems pretty fair. If anything, we're paying the worst coach in the conference the least amount, seems to fit for me.

If 8th, is it 8 out of 10 since the private schools don't generally report?

Most likely its 8th out of 12 for last year, that is set to drop Sonny was demanding an increase in his pool at Cal who was behind us. Really the only school paying significantly less for its assistants than us in the Pac 12 is Wazzu, the others below us are all w/in 5% of the same number. Where as UCLA/Furd/Oregon/USC are all at 1mm or 35% more than those of us in the basement rung (wazzu is in the sub basement). The Pac is basically stratified on the assistant comp pool:

- UCLA/Oregon/Furd/USC 3.6+
- Wash/Ariz/ASU 3-3.2
- Cal, CU, Ut, OSU 2.5-2.7
- Wazzu 2.3

Adjusted for cost of living though this pretty much puts us 11th with Cal even if they go to 3.0mm as Sonny wants behind us. Not sure cost of living figures in as much as it would with normal humans though because the comp numbers are in part about ego with coaches.

The biggest issue I have with the assistant salaries is that bernardi is the third highest paid and tumpkin and Clark are the two lowest. Nienas makes 250 grand which is crazy!

Most likely its 8th out of 10 or 10th out of 12 depending on how you look at it, that also assumes that Cal wont touch theirs with this re-up for dykes (it was a point of contention for Sonny).

They upped to 3 million for assistants today

Id rather be pitching 2.748 in boulder than 3.0 in Berkley

Yeah Its exoensive out there but it's also a cool place to live. Don't get me wrong, I would prefer Boulder but I can understand why people would like more out there.

Give and take is necessary. MM needs to bring guys with solid credentials and RG needs to put up more money (if need be). Neinas is the perfect cautionary tale.

I've lived in both to live the way i do now here in denver/boulder i would need 50% more money there

I don't know who you are talking about but I think you are off base. Bohn went to boosters for money for more money for HC and Staff - the promise was we were going to get a P5 level experienced Head Coach and staff. We paid the money but did not get what we were promised. You are way overstepping with your jealously comment - it has nothing to do with it. We hire people all the time - we want to pay a competitive wage but we also factor in experience and proven track record. I am pissed off because MacIntyre was given a salary pool so he could compete for P5 level staff instead he did not do the work to find those guys and just hired the coaches from San Jose. Your market comment is weird - normally if we are moving someone to a bigger stage we start him at the lower end of the scale for that position until they proven themselves.
