With 4 9-win seasons in the previous 8 years before Moorhead they feel the past 2 seasons were a setback and the issues heading into the Music City Bowl only sealed the deal. And as @crosby87 mentioned Moorhead wasn't a good fit plus he didn't grasp the cutthroat nature of recruiting in that region.

Aren't they better off hiring one of John Hevesy, Billy Gonzales, or Todd Grantham? They've all worked for Mullen (who is the greatest coach in MSU history and its not close) in Starkville and followed him to Florida.

Greatest coach while at MSU? Ok, yeah, maybe. Greatest coach to have coached at MSU at one point in his career? Nowhere even close.

- Bernie Bierman coached the University of Minnesota to five national championships.
- Murray Warmath coached the University of Minnesota to a national championship.
- Darryl Royal coached the University of Texas to three national championships.
- Jackie Sherrill coached the University of Pittsburg to three consecutive 11-1 seasons, two of which they ended the year #2 in the polls. He also has the most wins as the MSU HC with 75.

Im talking about results at MSU. Dan Mullen had them at number 1 in the AP poll in 2014. If I'm their AD, I'm hiring a Florida coordinator.

Mississippi State boards going crazy with speculation that Joe Judge will be HC, with Will Hall as OC and Bert Bielema as DC. Weird, if true.

Rhule doesn't really like recruiting. Not someone who "shows the love". In fact, that's part of his recruiting pitch. He's honest about it being a business and players being performing or non-performing assets he shouldn't have to hand hold. That should be a great fit for the NFL.
