Official 2021 Bowl Games Thread

I get that you didn't literally mean these matchups above but a matchup of that caliber, but I still think a Denver/Boulder bowl would need a regional team to help the draw. For example some lower-tier bowls which will draw fairly well due to having regional teams:

New Orleans Bowl - Louisiana vs. Marshall
Birmingham Bowl - Auburn vs. Houston
Gasparilla Bowl - UCF vs. Florida (I heard this was already a sellout but not sure if that's true)
Liberty Bowl - TT vs. Miss. State (clanga clanga clanga!)
Duke's Mayo Bowl (Charlotte) - UNC vs. South Carolina
Music City Bowl (Nashville) - Tennessee vs. Purdue

A Denver area bowl would likely need a regional team (and regional is relative in the western part of the country) like Wyoming, AF, BYU, Utah, CU/CSU of course, or KSU to help out with attendance. I don't think a matchup albeit decent ones like Minnesota-WV or a NC State-UCLA type matchup would cut it.
I agree and as you stated at the beginning, I didn’t mean those teams specifically.

The Pac 12, Mountain West, Big 12 and most of the B1G would draw well in Denver, IMO, and then of course the marquee programs of ACC and SEC.

I'm thinking of attending the L.A. Bowl tomorrow at Sofi. I friend attended the Chargers/Chiefs game there last night and said it a very awsome game experience. Utah State vs Oregon State could be a decent game and it should be easy peasy to get tickets.
Say hello to Jimmy Kamel for me!

Coastal Carolina is a fun team to watch.
That was an outstanding game to watch.

Both of those coaches should be looking at opportunities to make a lot more money soon.

And NIU coming from being terrible to this level this quickly shows how baseless all the excuses about being too young or not having a talent base, etc. etc. are.

A shame that one of those teams had to lose.

I think you conflate college sports fan with Colorado college sports fans. This state is over 50% transplant, a lot of whom are from the midwest. Also, as it's been stated, the goal of bowl games isn't to fill the stadium.
Interesting observation. Outside of Chicago, I don't run into a lot of midwest transplants. California, New York, New Jersey, yes. Midwest, no.

my guess is that while CO may be an attractive destination during bowl week for some people who like skiing and riding, that's not enough to overcome the apathy Coloradans have for college sports.
Yeah, but I don't think the target market for a local bowl game is Coloradans, I think it's the fans of the schools in the game. And the further away the schools are from Colorado and the more flat and boring their home locales are, the better. Something like a TCU/Missouri or an Illinois/K-State type of thing. Put the game in Folsom, draw 'em in with topography, hiking, legal reefer, and have a semi-autonomous organizational committee running things with as little involvement by CU as possible. Sell that Boulder sizzle. I seriously believe it could work.

You live in one of the most expensive areas of Colorado, so your observation makes sense. I assume you don’t frequent the city and close surrounding areas very often?

Consider where you live.

Lots of midwest transplants in the burbs. Not so much in places like Boulder.

At the risk of stereotyping a lot of midwesterners have more of a blue collar mentality, even the ones who work in white collar fields.

W KY and App St is a good matchup. Teams run some fun concepts and seem pretty even. Entertaining game so far.

Have you guys noticed that for years we've been watching CU pass offenses that look more like the NFL - tight windows to complete passes and a lot of plays where there is no one open?

But then when I'm watching other college games, I'm reminded that college football isn't like that. It's typical to see defensive breakdowns, mismatches and easy completion opportunities.

Oh well. Can't dwell on that. I'm just gonna watch some competent, entertaining football for a change and enjoy this bowl season.

You smokin’ the good stuff, eh?

And because of a lack of QBs who have the skills to make the reads and fit the passes on time into those tight windows the NFL is moving more towards college concepts with mobile QBs forcing defenders to make a choice.

And yet CU without a QB who has the required skills and without the time needed to implement these offenses insist on trying to force this offense, and clearly failing.

Yep. I think the closest we've had to an NFL type QB the past 20 years was Lobato. A walk-on we forced out of the program by moving him to safety. 😂

Our 1 really good season was mostly about our QB running off-tackle powers & hitting the occasional deep ball.

Coffee, a 5 Hour Energy, and watching the Celebration Bowl. So. Carolina State is hangin' in there so far. 7-0 JSU. Christmas errands later, then I'll check out Oregon State/Utah State.

We are Vanderbilt, minus the 10.9 Billion Dollar endowment. And minus Jay Cutler.

Thank heavens for these throw away bowl games.

Still sitting here in a hospital bed, should get out tomorrow depending on what the lab says (they are trying to figure out exactly which bacteria are responsible for my infection so they can get me the right mix of antibiotics)

If not for these games to distract me I would be going nuts.

Seems though like some of these teams have left their defenses at home. Defenses aren't stopping anyone, winning team is the one that can jump on a fumble or interception or two. Not seeing many punts.

You see a lot of Pro Bowl level effort defenses in a lot of these bowls. Good luck with your healing.

Actually feel almost guilty being here. The swelling in my leg is almost gone (it was huge) and they have a wound pump on the surgery site.

I have no pain, just boredom. The only reason I am here is because they have me on antibiotics that can only be administered through the IV.

Hoping to go home tomorrow. We have already figured out that we will make a cardboard protector for my leg because the dog is going to go nuts when she sees me.
