Official 2021 Bowl Games Thread

I need a breakdown of which players are sitting out their bowl game and their impact. Do betting sites have this?

Auburn has a dude named "Smoke Monday". That's a pretty damn cool name, football name, even better. I know one board member knows who he is, for sure. Honestly, I did not. Watching him, that dude is physical as hell.

I think Albert Breer is hitting the nail on the head here
• Ohio State’s Rose Bowl opt-outs—receivers Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson are likely first-rounders, while left tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere and defensive tackle Haskell Garrett will probably go inside the top 100 picks—are as good an example as any of the changing landscape in college football, and its relationship with the NFL. Last year, Georgia had a host of opt-outs for the Peach Bowl (OG Ben Cleveland, TE Tre’ McKitty, C Trey Hill, CBs Eric Stokes and DJ Daniel, LB Monty Rice), and Florida had a bunch of guys skip the Cotton Bowl (TE Kyle Pitts, WRs Kadarius Toney and Trevon Grimes), and there’s a reason this keeps happening with the powerhouse programs. Three reasons, in fact.

1) For the elite, the playoff is now the goal, and the CFP has, more or less, rendered the other bowls exhibitions. Bottom line, if you’re an Ohio State or a Georgia, your players don’t look at even the most historic bowls the same way, say, a player at even a Wisconsin or an Oregon might.

2) Because of that, bowl games have become a way to get the next year’s players up and ready to roll—through the extra weeks of practice they get, and then in the game itself. That means coaches probably aren’t selling their players quite as hard on the idea of playing in the games as they used to.

3) Players have more information now. And besides just the injury risk, and cautionary tales that players like Jaylon Smith and Jake Butt can relay, there’s also the fact that guys can start taking money a month early, and start their draft prep a month early.

Now, I’m still excited to watch the big programs that didn’t make the playoff in bowl games this week. It’s just for different reasons now—these games give us a nice glimpse into the future for these programs. And maybe even an early peek at down-the-line draft prospects.

Depends on what the ultimate goal is. It'd devalue more regular season games and create an even bigger gap at the top.
Disagree. Ohio State, Clemson and Oklahoma missing the CFP doesn’t change anything about where those programs stand in the hierarchy, so the gap isn’t going to get any bigger just because those programs make a 12 team playoff.

But other programs will get to that level with an easier access to the playoff.

Playoff leads to exposure leads to more money leads to better recruiting leads to more talent leads to more wins leads to an increased chance of making the playoff.

Just don’t say you weren’t warned.

Go Zoomies!

If AF is scoring on chunk plays and getting a lead, you are going to have a bad time.

Louisville is 6-6 and have 2500+ yards both rushing and receiving averaging 32 points a game. D coach must be on the hotseat 😁

Good win!

We all hated the idea of him at CU, but ohhhh boy he’s looking real nice right about now

He has done a great job at Air Force.

He couldn't be close to as bad as we have but success at Air Force doesn't necessarily mean that he would be successful in Boulder.

Don't know how he would do coaching guys who don't have the cadet mentality. Also don't know how he would fit into the CU community.

AFA is probably the perfect job for him and he's the perfect coach for them.

Good coaches are good coaches, but yes, I admit there is likely a low ceiling with him. It’s mostly about taking a low ceiling and high floor over what we have right now

All of Ohio States' big dogs that are NFL locks are opting out of the Rose Bowl, and if and hopefully when Utah wins the game, that will be a convenient excuse for those arrogant asses. I do not like Utah at all, but OSU is garbage

I know that Miss State is missing a number of players but TTU is putting a whipping on them.
