Official Allbuffs CFB gambling thread

Makes sense. You have any money down on season win totals?
Nothing so far. I’m spooked about this season. Trying to consume info about offseason workouts to see who’s even going to play, where, when, will players be in shape? Many many variables.

NFL, College, or both? The only thing I have right now is the over on the Bucs.

Fair. I actually think the NFL is easier to bet than CFB. Smaller spreads and there are a couple teams every year you win more often than not by betting against them
Agree to disagree. In Vegas, limits, profits, and % returns for the sportsbooks on NFL games are much higher than college football games. Given the lower number of NFL games and the bet volume, the lines are much sharper than college. Sharp lines = worse for the bettor.

After the Champions League ends in August, my buddy John and I are likely not betting anymore this year. John’s really sharp at NFL stuff. He already alerted his various contacts at books in LV that he won’t be betting NFL in the fall. He asked me to think about what I want to do with college. I am still mulling, but I can’t see how college can be lucrative unless you have inside injury info.

I’m probably on the sidelines as well.

Circa posted opening lines for NCAAF. CU-CSU is a pickem. You can bet these in Colorado.

Colorado -3.5 on Fanduel sportsbook. What platform is everyone using for the season now that we can bet on these here in Colorado? I still have my Bovada account but debating about swapping over.

In fairness, the CL tournament sounds like the biggest wild card there is. Some teams will be missing players who have already left, some will be coming straight off a marathon schedule where they'Ve been playing 3 games a week for well over a month whereas others won't have played a competitive match in nearly half a year whereas the German clubs will have just had a month off with the players chilling in Ibiza for a bit.

Our player trackers follow player social media accounts, team social media accounts, and leading football writers to keep up on transfers and injuries. We feel very comfortable about our player data. Seeing how teams have handled returns has also influenced our predictions. We’ve done well.

If you live in Colorado, you should only bet on Circa. They’re easily one of the top 3 bookmakers in the country, especially awesome with NCAAF openers. Having legal access to them in Colorado is a huge benefit.

App available?
That’s my understanding. I’m not there, but all of my contacts at Circa indicate that they’re full steam ahead with the app in Colorado. They also said that their app line openers and moves would mirror Vegas.

genuinely curious. I've never gambled at your level, so I may not appreciate the value of relationships in this world. But calling the Vegas books to let them know he won't be bettering sounds odd -- kinda like calling the Barnes & Noble and telling them I won't be coming in and buying any new books. Did John do this just to maintain relationships, or is there some status issue that's at risk if he goes a season without betting?

He has a relationship at one book wherein we get openers no matter what because of his willingness to gamble in their blackjack pits. Getting to bet numbers that aren’t yet subject to the market is very valuable. He has relationships with other books that enable us to bet bigger than their normal limits. Again, this is extremely valuable when our analytics tell us that the market is off. He didn’t want to jeopadize those relationships.

So basically, when the pro decides it is actually gambling, i.e. he no longer has the advantage from knowledge and skill, due to the uncertainty of the various factors involved he makes the business decision that it isn't worth it. Most people should take that advice and never gamble, because they are disadvantaged in the long term and will lose because they don't have the knowledge and skill. Whenever the outcome becomes based on random chance, the Pros leave, because it is business and you can't make money on randomness. This is why I don't gamble. I don't have the time nor desire to become knowledgeable enough to gamble. I will play slots for a bit, like $20 or so, and occasionally play the powerball when the jackpot is odds x ticket cost or higher, but that is just purely for the fun with no expectation of making money.

That’s why it’s called gambling

The vast majority of sports bettors treat their action the same way you do the slot machine. They bet on occasion for fun - a March Madness office pool, a low stakes Super Bowl squares pool, or a long shot $2 trifecta for the Kentucky Derby. The next largest chunk bets for their teams because they want a heightened rooting interest when they go to LV or watch a game. The next largest group are losing sports bettors who derive enjoyment from having a financial interest in games. The last and smallest group are winning sports bettors who see the value in poor bookmaking.

John decided to opt out of the NFL this season because he finds eeking out edges to be difficult. He lauded my decision to opt out of NCAAF because he’s not interested in returning to casinos to meet his blackjack obligations until next year or later.

I'm using fanduel because they threw a ton of free money (about $100) at me to try their thing during lockdown. Only betting on UFC and the MLS tourney now that that's underway, and if I run out of the free money they gave me, I'm done for a while. Had Orlando City last night (winner), the under of 2.5 in that match (loser), NYCFC (loser), and the under in that match (winner). I have the under in Montreal-New England tonight. Probably Seattle tomorrow night.

You should also remember that to be a consistently winning sports better means that your average win rate is in the low 50%'s. If you treat this as a profession, there is very little room for error if you're going to really be making money on it consistently. The existing market (with it's turmoil) is not conducive to predicting this kind oof performance.

I’ve got draft kings and Westgate set up but nothing bet yet. Draft kings seems to have very easy deposit and withdrawal. @manhattanbuf do you know the online betting options for circa for deposit/withdraw?

I didn’t realize Westgate SuperBook was also in the Colorado market.

That is insane. Two of the three best sportsbooks in the US are legally available to you in Colorado. Wow.

Yeah, when it officially became legal I read an article that one of the casinos sportsbook would be ran by Westgate so I figured I'd at least download their app.

Circa and Westgate are the best in the US followed by Southpoint. It’s too bad that American sports are basically dead.
