Official Construction Update Thread

They had signage in the entry way to the locker room that said "COLORADO FOOTBALL" and it had a white backlight behind it, looks pretty sharp.

Will add a bunch of signage like this around the new facility.

Good call. I think I remember seeing a giant ralphie suspended in the center of the locker room. Bet thats where its going.

Will there be parking on Fr. Field (what's left of it ) during games after is all set an done or will that area only be used for practice?

Your guess is as good as any. I've heard that there will definitely be parking there and I've heard that there definitely won't be parking there. I hope they put down artificial turf and keep the parking there. The turf will let them park all year there instead of kicking those folks off whenever it rains or snows.

I'm pretty sure there won't be any parking. If I remember correctly, the parking lot below the IPF will be used, and the will have tailgating somewhere else.

I was told that Franklin will go away and all parking will be reassigned based on priority points for 2016.

Last week RG said they will not commit beyond 2015 to tailgating there. He mentioned they will be sending people on the road to places like Ole Miss and Tennessee to experience gameday and come back with ideas going forward to utilize here.

Well that is awesome to hear. The people that are sent there are lucky as hell. This seems like a big contrast from bohn who wanted to limit student drinking and partying to make everything better for families.

That's awesome. The only thing that I guess would sck is that if it goes away completely, we would have a football day where there is no tailgating next to the stadium. All the tailgating would be in little lots spread out throughout campus, but no "main tailgating lot" that identifies the cu tailgating experience. When people think CU FB tailgating they think Franklin Field. I guess is all for the better. Can't wait to see the new facilities.

They need to find a way to make it easy to get to and from the lower fields on gamedays, that imo would be a great tailgating spot. Down on the creek and in the shadow of Folsom.

Quick update,

Looks like a very large portion of the remaining concrete deck for the IPF is getting formed in right now. They must be wrapping up the finishes on the player spaces, because things outside are picking up steam again.

This. Why can't we use the current practice fields for tailgating?

My guess is the infrastructure down there is not currently designed for that kind of traffic. Upgrade the road, the parking lot, and maybe add some permanent restroom facilities down there. The biggest problem is access though. That hill is a bitch. The stairs don't make it any better. Drunk people and out of town folks will make that hill almost unusable. Have to see what they do with the buff walk and how it ties into a bridge over the creek. Would make the north end of the stadium a main entry point which is what I think RG is hoping for.

FWIW I was walking by the current practice fields last night, and they had cut down most of the trees that line the fence on the south side, and it looked like they were going to use that space to install bigger, permanent field lights down there. Not sure if they are planning on using that as a permanent field for another team or what.

Whatever it means, it definitely means there won't be much shade for the fall camp practices that are open.

Think all the varsity teams that played on Franklin will now be playing at the lower fields. Probably setting up those fields for those teams to play. Women's Soccer for example will be playing down there, so they will need HD lighting for TV and scoreboards and stuff like that.

What? I thought only club sports played on Franklin

Oh yeah. You're right, women play on prentup. Maybe they are prepping the lights down on the lower fields for the club teams then.

MarkW posted in the 'other sports' forum that there is a plan to move the women's soccer and lacrosse games to the current practice fields at some point in the future.

There are already plans in the works from Mortenson to build a bridge tying the buff walk to the lower parking lot. There are also plans to expand campus to the north.

They are giving the current practice fields to the intramural and club sports programs. It was negotiated as part of the deal to get all of Franklin for the IPF and new football practice fields.

Maybe they want to move soccer and outdoor T&F from East Campus so they can build that out more and find room for those sports across the creek?

I had an impromptu conversation with an athletic department employee back around Christmas and she stated something about not being able to build a more permanent structure for soccer at Prentup as it is slated for future construction. When I asked about where the soccer stadium would be moved to she said something about the current football practice fields as a possibility - she acknowledged the trade of Franklin for these practice fields. But is seemed that there might be another trade of some sort going on to get soccer and lacrosse to this location.

I don't see how they could open Franklin Field up this year since it is the Contractor's staging area. Unless, maybe, with much of the construction completed, they can scale the staging area down a lot.
