Official CU Head Coach Search Thread - Primetime

LOL- 247 Colorado has 15 pages of commentary to S Florida's 2 and both threads were released around the same time Wednesday.

I know I'm biased but CU IS the better choice IF Sanders wants to leave Jackson St.
Of course it is. There really isn’t an argument for USF other than the local talent, but Deion is going to get talent to come wherever he goes

The transfer issues the administration provides is costing us from bringing transfers in, not losing kids.

The **** staff our idiot AD hired is why we lost kids to the portal.
Exactly. When it’s open season on our roster, and we can only replace departed talent with graduate transfers, it is a “monumental” problem.

Rooney laying some nice groundwork for disappointment here:
“the transfer issue is not as monumental an issue as it's being made out to be.”
…not really sure about that. Losing our starting corners, safety, 2 wide receivers, and our RB probably made a difference this year. Especially with no ability to backfill. We weren’t going to win 10 games with them, but we would have won more than one.
Saying "its not a monumental issue" and then saying it prevents a program from a level playing field is certainly a take.

I think Rooney was saying the program had so many worse problems that the transfer issue was just a spec of dust amongst the heap of ****.
Feels like the talking points have gone out to our beat writer to help soften the blow.

As far as other “barriers:”

Our facilities are solid, stadium needs an update, but it’s not horrible. It’s still picturesque in location, design, and overall aesthetics.

We’re not hurting academically, we’re not Michigan, but we’re a good school.

Sounds stupid, but I think we have some of the best uniforms (outside of the all white). These are kinda chinchy things, and we have more positives like some tradition of winning (decades ago), etc.

I’ll give him conference uncertainty and poor NIL preparation, but those seem to go hand in hand with our “leadership’s” head in the sand attitude about the current landscape of FBS football.

I’d have preferred Rooney list all these other MASSIVE issues that the rest of us have missed over the past 16 years. There was plenty of time in the chat to lay them out.

He’s right, understandably. My perspective was that hiring someone with CU ties was a two pronged approach:
1) loyalty to the school, won’t jump ship like Midnight Mel
2) MOST IMPORTANTLY: understanding the dynamics of recruiting and coaching at CU (no JUCO’s and an untested NIL program)

I know Howell is right, and I’d prefer Prime for the splash and excitement he would bring, but we can probably land Walters on promises instead of guarantees. Might be able to pull off the same deal with an FCS coach looking for a shot with a P5 program.

Ryan Walters will be a P5 Head Coach regardless of whether it’s at Colorado or not. He is a super legit rising star in the coaching ranks.

I think he’s our next coach. His ability to leverage concessions/improvements/it’s the 21st century a-holes! from the admin is my concern.

While a lot of academics don’t hate football, some have a grudge against it because they have a zero sum game outlook on budgets.

When they see AD budgets and coaches salaries they imagine that those dollars would be available to their departments if…if…only.

They just see fat guys in sweatshirts with clipboards on TV every Saturday making $5 million/year and it doesn’t seem fair to them.

This doesn’t apply only to CU.
Certainly doesn’t only apply to CU. But the person I replied to said these people don’t exist at Cu. Maybe it was a joke that flew over my head, but that’s just not accurate

This has been my sentiment all along. Would Sanders change the trajectory of the program and make us nationally relevant? Yep. Is he coming to Boulder? Nope. Without changing the PTD requirements, creating an academic pathway for athletes to transfer in their credits and earn a degree, and loosening the mandatory 48 credit hours to graduate with a degree, this is an exercise in futility for any coach. Relying on graduate transfers with one year of eligibility to build a roster is not a pathway to relevance, much less a winning program.

I doubt Bronco and Herman “cooled” on us; we couldn’t deliver what they need. Personally, I’ve had my money on Walters since we fired Doral, he’s the only one with a “tie” to the program that would come here out of some sense of duty/nostalgia. Rick has 8 days left to convince Phil to make the changes listed above to not make next season a complete waste. Don’t see it happening. 2023 is a lost year before the first kickoff most likely.

Maybe by 2025, if we can keep 60% of the current roster and some continuity, I can see us eking out a 6-6 season to a low tier bowl. Without changes, we are just a farm team for the serious programs. As it stands, we still have cool uniforms, an awesome mascot, and a beautiful campus.

Sorry for the doom right after Turkey Day, but I’ve never been this down on the program in my 34 years of being a fan. It’s not fun anymore, and I don’t see a time when it will be in the near future. Congrats to the seniors and I wish them the best, those underclassmen that choose to leave for brighter horizons, I understand and do not blame you.
I really hate abject negativity. Ugh.

Feldman talking there. Legit
Here it comes.

That's a good tweet to see. I believe people were worried Wanda James would be anti-athletics.
I think that there were a lot of political assumptions going on. Just because her politics are very much on the "woke" spectrum and her campaign platform was not about athletics does not mean she isn't going to be a fan and supporter.

Nothing about it on GameDay thus far, but damn if they aren't yapping about Rhule and Auburn's search.
Should've known better with ESPiN being all in on B1G and $EC.
Meh. Not as much to talk about with really no firm news
