Official CU vs Delaware Game Thread

I felt good about the GT game and felt this could be a contender for the Big XII title game with Utah being the obvious favorites.

This game was in a way better and worse than that game. Salter made it clear to me he's at best 14 to 17ppg. We aren't winning much with him. I though the defense was bend don't break and got lucky with turnovers. Now I think they are bend don't break and they are actually a good hustle team. No real star talents outside of DJ and he makes mistakes more than a 1st rounder should. Not as many as Travis made but Travis is a generational talent, DJ is not.

This team is loaded with NFL 2nd stringers in the DL and secondary and their LB core is G5 and clearly the weak part of the team talent wise. Better defense than last year but less talented and no true leaders like Cam. Ben is working to do that and maybe he will.

The offense looked bad against GT outside of a drive. It looked bad today outside of Joe Montana Jr. Joe had the offense humming like 2 was back. We all know what Staub does well. Play on time. Great at reads and progressions. Likes to scramble like 2. Accuracy can be shotty but he's still a 62-64% guy like a Dillon Gabriel. He likes to take shots and he likes to go to his checkdown if nothing is there and he might hold the ball too long to take a shot but he trust his weapons. The growth we saw today from him was his playmaking was much better. He didn't resist or think too much as he might have did at the Utah or Washington State game. He just adjusted asap. He always looked like a G5 starter to me but today, he looked like a P4 starter and a good one. Just ride the wave. We look like a potentially very good team with Staub. Better than what I saw with Kaidon. Juju talent is obvious but he looked like he was on the road in the pocket. He needs some work, Wyoming would be a good game for him to play. Delaware front 7 wasn't bad

Juju can run just fine, and was pretty good on his throws, with Farrakhan dropping a high zinger that could have been housed

You have to start Staub, have Salter willing to be ready, and hope to keep finding chances for Juju
If you start Staub, Salter is #3, It’s a choice, that cannot be reversed. If Juju drops to #3 there are 20+ programs that sell in the same NIL deal.

I’ve commented on here about all 3 QBs over the last 4 months. Good and bad. But let me be crystal clear:

THIS IS 1000000000% AN OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR ISSUE.
So is CP aware of this? 'cause a lot of times from the outside looking in it seems like CP has blinders on when it comes to shummer and hart.

Hank, if the call was go route to Sincere on time, he would hit it, that is all I am saying

He was given Bubble Screen (complete) , Role and throw right sideline (complete), RPO quick slant (overcooked, but Farrakhan should have caught it), and then two dropbacks with no protection.

But Staub checked into the go routes. He said so at the post-game press conference. I doubt a true frosh has the confidence and awareness to make those calls.

Or the staff saw something that really concerned them about Salter that they didn’t see in camp, and they had the courage pivot.

Really hard to know.
It isn't unusual, especially at QB but can happen at any position, that a guy looks great in practice, makes all the right decisions, etc. then when it is in a real game against different colored jerseys that all goes out the window. Salter looks like a guy who's head is betraying him.

What asked who will start and play next, CP said "I have a plan, I have always had a plan. I see it in practice everyday. I am not going to say right now, but 'I have a dream Staub"
Let's not forget that CP makes the call to put Staub in. He sees how awful the offense and defense have been, although he is protecting 2 coordinators who are not cutting it. A good manager protects their guys - I'm sure they are hearing how bad this has been. It seemed crazy at the time but it was a good plan to pivot once we saw 2 Juju punts.

You can’t afford to sink an additional mil to go into year 2 without knowing if Lewis is a hit or miss, can you?

These are professionals and you can’t afford to sit your most expensive player.
There are 10 more games this year.

He is a 17 year old freshman with some playing time at a p4 level already after just game 2.

If staub lites it up going forward, there is still plenty of time to get juju playing time. If staub doesnt lite it up, there is plenty of time to get juju significant playing time when he is ready.

There was obviously a problem at qb looking at game 1. This was prime giving all his QBs playing time to see who would rise to the challenge and staub did. He should now be qb1.
