Official CU vs. Kansas Game Thread 11/23/24

Watching the SEC today, I don't care who's playing, all of them have LBs with speed. All of them have safeties with speed even if they are dumb as bricks. DTs got speed too. We gotta up our play speed on D. We can't fix that right now but we can in the portal

True, but it wasn't a case of not being in position to make plays today on defense. We just didn't make them. From Cam whiffing on the tackle on their first TD to Neal breaking tackles to put us away in the 4th quarter, we couldn't make the plays when we had the opportunity.

We really lack speed up the middle. Our safeties aren't fast just instinctive. Our LBs aren't fast, just instinctive. Same for our DTs which is expected. We need to recruit more speed. Wester at LB is our only LB with speed and he's small. He gets hands on him too easy. We need speed plus size on D.

Offensively, we need a legit #1 RB. Isiah makes do but no one else is a #1. Micah could be but he really should be redshirted on most teams.
I have high hopes for Brandon Hood

Yep. That's why I said it's not hard to upgrade our talent in LBs. NHG has been awesome for us, but he would be a normal rotation player in those SEC teams.

We don't have any other LBs who can start in top half SEC teams.

We were in position but we weren't fast enough to the POA. Our lack of speed was looking like we were Kansas. We just got great speed on the corners but our front 7 isn't fast at all nor are we big

I agree with this, but I'd add extending Rob Livingston to your list. That should happen shortly after the Oklahoma State game.

I’m so sad about what could have been.

Me too. I was hoping that we would sneak into a top 4 seed. Knowing we are not that good. And then it was a question of whether we would be humiliated in a quarterfinal game, or maybe Shedeur and Travis could whip up some magic to advance or keep it close. But whatever. I don't think it matters that much in the trajectory of this program.

If it matters, Bama, A&M, and Boise look bad tonight too.
The more I watch, the more I think 12 is too many teams.

Today probably opens the door for Tennessee to make the playoff assuming they don't lose to I think Vandy, A&M's out (I had them losing to Texas anyway-that South Carolina game was an eye opener), and Boise's getting in because we have to take a G6 team for whatever stupid reason. SMU and Miami should both get in, and I've felt that way for a few weeks. SMU is damn good.

But 2 handled it well. Like i said, offense didn't lose us this game. Neither did special teams
Offense didn't lose the game but they didn't win it either. Would have been helpful to get off to a faster start instead of letting KU take control of the game, would have helped to convert some first downs and sustain some drives keeping the D off the field and scoring more than 21 points.

Just took another look at KU's season. 6 losses by a combined 30 points. Worst loss by 11 (TCU) with everything else a 1-score game. Only 1 of its wins (@ BYU) was a 1-score game. A bit snakebit, because that could easily be an 8-win team right now if the bounces hadn't gone so wrong. I think it was a bad run of turnovers for them.

Yes, it's not hard to see that they are a better (and more mature) team than us.

Honestly I don't feel bad at all. We lost to a better team in their home. Simple like that.

I think the transfer portal explosion brought a lot more parity to the sport this year.

Each of the P4 conferences has like 10 teams who could win against anybody on their best weekend of the year.

#1 beat Wisconsin by a FG last week. Started the season with close wins over Boise and Idaho.
#2 struggled against Nebraska to a 4 point win about a month ago, but has the best resume if not for a 1 point road loss to #1
#3's best win is by a FG over Vandy, and their only truly tough opponent thumped them
#4 beat Minnesota by 1 today, their best win is over Illinois
#5 got smoked today and their best win is over Michigan
#6 Lost to Northern Illinois
#7 Is down 21 to Oklahoma, and potentially going to take L #3 soon
#8 Has been bailed out twice be the refs, dropped a game to Ga. Tech 2 weeks ago, best win is Louisville?

There are no teams without at least 2 questionable performances this year.

I have to wonder if the half empty stadium was a bit of a letdown for the players. Had to be some level of hype about playing in an NFL stadium, albeit one of the ****tiest ones, only for it to be one of the most tepid gameday environments of the year. Not an excuse, just interesting.

Not bad enough

Everybody is going to have a clunker. ****, we've had three.

This year has exposed 2 problems with this sport. Realignment's one. We have two of the four major conferences probably relying on wonky tiebreakers (SEC for whoever will play Texas assuming they beat A&M, and the Big 12). It also resulted in Indiana getting to play the conference schedule they have.

If you're letting me pick the 12 (that might scare some of you) right now, this is what I'd have.
ACC-Miami and SMU should both get in regardless of the ACC CG result.
Big 12-Champ only. I'll throw Arizona State in here just to have a name on that team.
Notre Dame gets in because I'm struggling to come up with who to put in over them right now.
Big 10-tOSU, Oregon, Penn State, Indiana
SEC-Texas (even with an SEC CG loss), Georgia, Tennessee.

You mean, oh, let’s see, if Travis wouldn’t have been spun around by the defender on a sure touchdown? That was so flagrant I still cannot understand how the ref did not call it.
