Official CU vs. Kansas Game Thread 11/23/24

If BYU loses, we also need Texas Tech to beat West Virginia. Then the tiebreaker means our win v. Texas Tech is the top tiebreaker. We have no tiebreaker if BYU wins. That means we need Iowa State and Arizona State to lose.

If all of the tied for 1st place teams lose next week
Baylor and Kansas State are in
If Baylor also loses, Texas Tech is in with Kansas State so 7 teams are still alive.
If all 3 loss but Colorado. Kansas State is in v. Colorado for a rematch
Baylor is in if they beat Kansas and all 3 lose but CU.

Basically, next Saturday will be wild but we have to win against OK State.

You mean BYU

Our success was predicated on the defense being salty against the run and the offense running enough to keep the opponent honest. We could not stop the run. Tackles were missed. DL got blown up. Their OL was allowed to hold.

In the end, this loss was about the lack of execution. The D just couldn’t get their sh!t together no matter how well positioned they were.
So much this! Not caring about the officials as much as our D could not get their **** together. I told my family, we stop the run we win. We do not and we lose. We lost

When it comes to play… it was a 65/35 them split.
When it comes to calls… it was a 90/10 them split.
That made the game 80/20 them.

Referees have a major impact on the game. We had many major screwups. We basically had zero momentum because KU was permitted to play with a much narrower strike zone than we were.

If we miraculously got into the playoff I’d almost be embarrassed after the way we played today when we had control of our destiny. The way we played today, we don’t deserve anything better than a decent bowl game.

At the end of the day, we know what we are. We need to avoid Alabama and teams with running QBs with a passion. Pray to get pocket QBs or slow QBs who our edge rushers can get to.

I don’t think Baylor has any shot given the matchups of the teams above them and their losses to those teams.
Realistically yes. But I wasn't going by that. I am looking at all possible options.

Neither NHG or Bentley got invited to the East West Shrine Bowl. This game is the reason. You can be instinctive safeties and make it because it's a passing league. As a LB, if you aren't a coverage LB, you better be great at run stopping. Our guys just didn't bring it.

Bentley looked like he was running in slow motion on his missed tackle in the first Q.

He looked so slow against Kansas. That's when everything I saw when we were playing Kansas State and Baylor was back again. Our LBs looking real slow. Wester got speed but his brain isn't get for a LB and he's not that big.

So the best chance for Big12 Championship Game for CU is beat OSU and then both Wildcats win.
Arizona at home in a rivalry is possible while I have to believe KSt at ISU is a pick-em type of game.

I actually think Houston can give BYU a lot of issues. They got a great defense. Just a horrendous offense. They tend to play up like Texas Tech. Maybe another upset. This is the Big XII, anything can happen

I get that a lot of us hate to make the "we lost because of the officials", but they weren't good today. Four examples:

KU was able to get away with holding fairly regularly when they ran. Happened a lot.
The hit on Shedeur in the first half should have had a flag on it. Its a late hit for sure, and there's an argument for roughing the passer. The language in the rule at the college level isn't "leaves the pocket". Its "becomes a runner". SS2 was behind the LOS IIRC when he took that hit, so he can throw the ball legally still. He hasn't "become a runner" at that point.
Third really nauseating moment was on the play that Shedeur shoved Kevin Mar on. There should have been a taunting flag on that. There's language in that rule that involves making acts that provoke ill will. Posted what happened right before the scrum on that play. SS2 had one KU defender's leg make contact with his head, and another fall on him on that play. You've gotta have a taunting flag there IMO, and if you do, you likely don't have the scrum.
The flag on McKinney is also an issue in my view. I'm not arguing DJ was not in the wrong there-he absolutely was. That should have been an offsetting flag.

You've got two jobs as an official regardless of the sport-keep control of the game, and enforce the rules. The way I see it (and I don't believe I'm using CU glasses on this take) neither were accomplished by this crew.

The more I watch, the more I think 12 is too many teams.

Today probably opens the door for Tennessee to make the playoff assuming they don't lose to I think Vandy, A&M's out (I had them losing to Texas anyway-that South Carolina game was an eye opener), and Boise's getting in because we have to take a G6 team for whatever stupid reason. SMU and Miami should both get in, and I've felt that way for a few weeks. SMU is damn good.
Of course it's too many teams. 4 was more than enough 90% of the time.
