Official CU vs Utah game thread 11/16/24

What stood out to me at the game on Saturday was how accurate Shedeur is. The guy is accurate from the pocket, but also when he is on the run. It is really uncanny how he consistently puts the ball in a catchable window no matter the situation.

In contrast, Utah’s Wilson made several wild throws, some of which came when he wasn’t even under pressure. The kid seemed to have a good arm and was very tough given the punishment he was taking, but his lack of accuracy was a real problem for him.

Meaningful November football at Folsom is a great thing to see.

Not sure if mentioned, but wanted to call out a much improved performance by Ralphie. Both runs crossed the 50. The 2nd half run even got across the opposing 40. She's still a little slow off the start line and it takes a minute for her to get into gear, but she looks like she turned a corner on Saturday. 👍🦬

The late window games are past her bed time.

I was commenting to my friend about that. He's whipping the ball, and she snags everything.
I know, right? He’s not just tossing her softballs. He’s whipping the ball at her and it’s like she has glue on her hands. Good technique, too. Catches everything with her hands. And then she throws the ball back almost as fast as he does.

Also noticed this. Impressive stuff.

Now, on to fumbles. I've been posting in game score prediction threads that we were due for a bad fumble luck game. We've not been fumbling much (unplanned snaps aside), and when we do fumble, we've not been losing them. And we've had damn good luck recovering fumbles. Against utah we had two fumbles, lost them both. Utah had 3 I think, we recovered one of them. at a 50% chance to recover each fumble, that's some bad luck to go 1-5.

Shedeur also had that pick.

And, thanks to 3 picks and crazy skill, we scored 42 points and won by 25. WTF.

Good teams can overcome their mistakes and still win.

Still getting used to that concept.

I totally felt the doom creeping up after Shedeur's WTF interception on the first play, but then we got our first glimpse of our defense against Isaac Wilson and I felt better.

TBH, though, I thought the score was not indicative of Urah's front 7 played. We hit on a bunch of big plays, even though most of our snaps didn't do a whole lot.

The video board in the stadium showed a sign from Big Noon Kickoff that said "Utah fans ski in jeans."

Well done to whoever made that.
Oh man. Dang.

My dad moved to CO in 1959 when he was 8 y/o and learned to ski a few years later. He has always worn jeans. I've always seen this as a badge of honor, as someone who never falls ... even to this day. 73 y/o this winter skiing with two bad hips, neuropathy in his feet, on 215 Red Stars that he got in 1980, and that probably weigh 20 lbs. each. He's probably only good for a couple groomers now before he calls hit quits, but he's still wearing jeans.

F/U Utah if you co-opted this and ruined another good thing.

If you've been skiing for 60+ years and are still at it, you get to wear whatever you want.

But ski culture absolutely mocks jeans skiers. If you want to point a finger at who made skiing in jeans uncool, it's all the Texans who flock up here in the winter, clog up the slopes, and basically are complete jerries while wearing jeans and jackets with huge NFL or college football logos.

LOL you forgot to add knocking people down in the lift line.

Yoot fans were asking why Wilson was playing if this was true. I mean, Whitt played Rising with a broken hand and Rose with a broken foot, you think barfing and a fever are going to keep him from playing Wilson?

I learned in jeans at Keystone. **** that ****. My buddy (instructor) just thought it was hilarious as I rode the lift up in the dark with literally frozen legs. On that last run I was NOT going to fall regardless... I finally put down a run without crashing.
Then rode all the way back to Boulder in those same damn jeans.
Turned into a good skier, but what a way to learn.

He wanted to play and said he could go. Rumor was that he had mono, not a flu.

I saw that too.

Every kid is going to want to play (well, unless they've checked out and are eyeing the portal, I guess). It's the coaches' job to determine whether or not they can/should. Like I said, it's kinda silly to think Whitt wasn't going to play him when he's been giving his other QBs the needle and sending them out.

Good point.

I remember one day when I was in junior high (I think), I was actually at school for a before school weightlifting class when the district decided to declare a snow day. I went with a friend's parents instead of going home, and we decided to go sledding. All I had was what I had worn to school that day. Man, my jeans froze, my shoes froze, my lower legs were numb - it was a ****show. We quit after about an hour and a half.

Did I mention how cool and low-key petty it was to invite Arapahoe dancers to perform during a game against the 'Utes'?

I doubt this came into the equation (but I hope it did) but the Cheyenne and Arapahoe came from the Great Lakes region and drove the Utes off the Front Range and into the mountains/to the Western Slope.

Next time I hope they let the Arapahoe have the entire halftime show.

Doctors say it’s very dangerous to play sports with mono (due to enlarged spleen that could rupture) so it checks out that Whittingham would let him play.
That’s what I was thinking.

Flu just likely means feeling like **** and needing extra fluids, but you are not supposed to be doing exertion with mono because of said Spleen concerns.

I did find it somewhat odd that we would import some native Americans from Wyoming to perform a show while we were playing a team named after a completely different tribe. And, um, Colorado doesn’t exactly have a great reputation for how we treated Native Americans.

I didn't really know what was going on when that dance performance happened. They did a much better job of explaining what was going on and who/what/why with the dances at the hoops game on Sunday.
