Official CU vs Utah game thread 11/16/24

I saw that too.

Every kid is going to want to play (well, unless they've checked out and are eyeing the portal, I guess). It's the coaches' job to determine whether or not they can/should. Like I said, it's kinda silly to think Whitt wasn't going to play him when he's been giving his other QBs the needle and sending them out.
He looked totally different in the 2H. He made some amazing throws that I was quite surprised to see him complete, especially after some of the horrorshow overthrows.

Whittingham is a throwback coach. This includes playing players who say that they’re good to go.

Did I mention how cool and low-key petty it was to invite Arapahoe dancers to perform during a game against the 'Utes'?

I doubt this came into the equation (but I hope it did) but the Cheyenne and Arapahoe came from the Great Lakes region and drove the Utes off the Front Range and into the mountains/to the Western Slope.

Next time I hope they let the Arapahoe have the entire halftime show.
That’s a deep cut from history!

The dark side of that sort of "throwback coach" is that many of them put you in their doghouse if you ever say you're not good to go for something which doesn't require surgery.

On the walk home we agreed that the Buffs didn’t play a great game. Or maybe a better way to state it is that they didn’t play a complete game.

In both this game and at Lubbock there were lolls in the second half at points when the Buffs had the opportunity to put the game away. Last Saturday it looked CU went into somewhat of a prevent defense where they played a zone and only rushed four. Luke Wilson had plenty of time to wait for a TE to get into between the linebackers and DBs.

The flip side is that in both games CU got aggressive again, especially on defense. Once that happened it was game over. In both games when the punt team pinned the opposition inside the five it was open season on the quarterback resulting in turnovers.

It’s also clear that there aren’t many teams on CU’s schedule that can match or beat the level of talent they deploy on offense. It looked like play calling stagnated in the second and third quarters with a lot of screens that were blown up. But once they found a few plays that worked it was game on. On a third down Wester was in motion towards the formation and then away when the ball was snapped which gave him the momentum to get a first down. Then Shedeur was able to find Drelon Miller on the move and that gave him the opportunity to do so serious damage.

I’ll take CU’s receivers in a jump ball situation every time. The Buffs are fortunate Omarion Miller and Jimmy Horn Jr. can be out injured and they still have Travis, Will Sheppard, Lejohntay Wester and Drelon Miller. All of them can make a huge play at any time. It truly is an “embarrassment of riches.”

I did find it somewhat odd that we would import some native Americans from Wyoming to perform a show while we were playing a team named after a completely different tribe. And, um, America doesn’t exactly have a great reputation for how we treated Native Americans.
