CU currently has 3 OOC opponents scheduled every yearuntil 2028, and again in 2030 (2 in 2029). So that might be tough to just change our OOC schedule for a merger like that as there not a great deal of room to add B1G opponents, although CU can always cancel contracts and pay liquidated damages if the money is right. I have not looked at the other PAC-12 OOC schedules, but I assume other teams are in similar spots. On the other hand, we already have one B1G opponent scheduled for 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2026 and 2027, so that might slightly alleviate any difficulty.
I would assume that any cost to maneuver the schedule would be more than made up for by the new TV contract we would earn as some kind of scheduling alliance with the B1G
Sure, money can make anything happen. I would note that in ‘25 and ‘26 we have 2 pretty good OOC games already scheduled in G-Tech and Houston. I would hate to see a move that made us get rid of either of those games, which would happen if we only got one OOC in either of those years. There is a throw-away game in ‘25 in Wyoming and in ‘26 we already have a B1G game with Northwestern, so if one of those years was a 1OOC year we would only have to cancel or more likely reschedule one meaningful OOC opponent.

I think when the dust settles you will have basically PAC 12/B1G and SEC/ACC as the final version of Power conference football.
Mostly agree. Still think UVA and UNC are flight rightsbto SEC (or B1G) though.
Completely agree on the first part - no way the SEC has any interest in Baylor.
If the SEC were to add any more schools the most likely candidates would be VT and NC State but that's probably only if the B1G first raids the ACC.
If those 2 go anywhere I would think it would be to the B1G

I know this has been said before, so sue me. But the only way CU comes out on this in the positive is a net new conference that isn't the B1G or the P12 and they just believe we are last player chosen.

As Navigator, I could start rumors on deployment by asking my QMs to pull charts for me, for any nice liberty port in the general area.

I was thinking about that too, but if the playoffs are 12 teams and the main goal is to create desirable inventory, you’d almost have to do matchups like tOSU vs USC/Oregon.
In @Shldr2Shldr idea of B1G and P12 scheduling alliance, I’d like to see 8 conference games and then at least 3 cross conference games, one of which is based on the finish from the prior year. BIG1 vs PAC1, BIG2 can PAC2, etc.
That would obviously require a deviation from how programs schedule everything 10 years out, but would create a lot of interest with a more dynamic schedule
I really do think that in an expanded playoff world (have to start there for it to work) having the season's inter (and maybe even intra) conference schedule determined by ranking the previous season makes tons of sense.
The conferences currently having different numbers of teams does present a problem though.
On deployment, ships generally pull into port for either maintenance or liberty. Liberty is basically time off (technically called Shore Leave). So, me asking for the navigation department to pull charts for a place like the Seychelle Islands or Phuket Thailand, would lead to thoughts of cold beer and warm sand, which is quite welcome when you've been away from home and at sea for several months.
Yep, the NFL does scheduling based on prior year finish, so it can obviously be done. I think the uneven number of teams can be solved by having the 13/14 B1G teams play each other, even if that means they play twice that year. Those teams aren’t generating ratings anyways.
