Officially off the Macintyre bandwagon

Guarantee there would have been a comment here criticizing him if he didn't, just last week he was (rightfully) lambasted for punting on 4th and 15 in our own half. It was the right call.
The other 4th down calls were much more questionable to me - 1st half in a tie game (I think) and Mac goes for it on 4th and 9 where it would have been about a 54 yard FG attempt, but 2nd half down by 20 and he attempts a FG on 4th and 3 which gets blocked. That was a chicken s**t call IMO. We were down 3 scores and best case we make the FG which still leaves us down 3 scores.

A loss next week would mean a 2-7 season against P5 opponents and one other marginally respectable win (CSU). Thats terrible. Sorry. Gotta pull collective heads out of their asses next week to at least feel a little better about the year and HCMM.

That's what I'm talking about! It's not that he's conservative that I have an issue with. It's that he always makes the WRONG decision when to be aggressive or conservative or how to handle clock management in general

Anyway, to summarize my thoughts on this thread subject:
Do I want Macintyre fired? Yes
Do I think there's any chance it will happen this year? No
Do I want him to have to change his coaching staff? No (Only because I have any remaining faith in his ability to select assistants after the DJ Eliot hire)

I know it is a lot to ask at this point but we are about two weeks away from changes being announced.

Yeah it was like we took Viagra and got a couple pumps then went permanently limp
I've been trying to construct a good the rise was due to viagra joke all day - the analogy is obvious enough that there should be a joke in it - I was leaning towards a "if you experience a rise that lasts longer than 12 games" construction, but couldn't find a good close to fit it.

And then I see that you've ruined any potential subtle cleverness by running a cheap, clumsy and crass analogy.

Um, this is allbuffs. What did you expect?

Better Assistants will fix that too. Lindgren recruits one QB per year, then shuts it down and acts like he goes into the lab and puts together the offensive playbook, which as we all know is OFFENSIVE!!!
I don't think we are allowed to critique Lindgren yet.

Very concerned he isn’t the guy to sustain a program. I look at decision like going for it on 4th and 9 earlier in the game but not on 4th and 3 later. Almost had another punt blocked (smh), two blocked field goals, etc. and the lack of recruiting on the Dline. Then again if the players execute we were in a tied up game. Very frustrating.

MM has done a hellofa job building this program from a level of suck maybe no other P5 program had ever got to. God bless him. few could have done it.

You look at the past five years and you see a climb from the ****hole in year1, close loses in year 2 and especially 3 and 5.

Year 4 wasn't the next step; it was an explosion past the next step. It just stands out from the other years in so many ways. You just have to wonder....was 2016 something else? Should we accept the other explanation?

Now in year 5 we are back to close loses. If the rebuild pattern wasn't stalled youd think we would be at least to mostly close wins. It appears this staff has a problem breaking through that close loss stage at the P5 level.

I said I would wait until the season is over before making a judgement, but the pattern is becoming pretty clear.

Not a big fan of MM and wasn't crazy about the hire from the beginning but there's no doubt he has certainly gotten the program back to respectability and a point of being somewhat significant nationally. But I don't think he can take the program to the next level based on where the recruiting is and there's no immediate signs of his recruiting getting to the level of where it needs to be.

Last year was great but things fell in place schedule-wise and with the conference being down but we got manhandled by 2 of the 3 elite teams we played and USC helped keep us in that game with turnovers and still out-gained us badly.

He's not on the hot seat right now and shouldn't be but my fear is that he will keep us hovering around the brink of mediocrity and bowl eligibility in the years to come, which will keep him employed as our coach for at least a few years which in turn means the program ends up right about where it is now.

Disagree slightly @CarolinaBuff. I think last year represents the current ceiling of what a MM team could be—would not expect to see that on a very consistent basis though. I think this year represents the floor of what the program currently can be—a team scrapping for a .500 record. The much needed talent infusion would elevate both the floor and also give the program a chance to break through the ceiling. Your question still remains valid regarding whether or not MM is the guy to get to that next level.

IMO the recruiting deficiencies show up on the field as "poor play" or "bad coaching" due to the thin personnel situations. The well stocked positions look to be QB, WR, and DB and that's great but everything else is lagging massively. I hope the young OL guys come around next year but we'll have to wait and see. At the moment it's pretty much a C+ PAC 12 type of outfit.

MM is a career 0.307 conference coach in eight seasons. He is who he is.

He caught lightening on a bottle once and and turned it into substantial and, perhaps undeserved, wealth.

Looking at next year’s potential starters, I see four conference wins, tops. Likely three.
