Other Games 8/28-9/1

I’ll say it - Utah doesn’t look like world beaters.
Don't have to lie because they are rivals. That's a better team than any Big XII team I've seen this year. It's not even close. BYU was playing nobody and they looked like last year but QB is a question mark. Kansas looks good but I am not sure if they are very good or not. Same for TT. The reason is pretty much even. No one looks trash, just good to solid. No one looks even average this year. The Big XII top to bottom is the most balanced league in the P4. But Utah is the only team I've seen that will run the table. Even then, they don't look like a contender as Clemson did. Watched Arizona State. Skattebo is a massive lost. On par with us losing Hunter and Shedeur, Boise losing Jeanty.

Agree with this with the exception of one team-Kansas State followed up the Dublin performance by needing a late TD to get by North Dakota.

I've seen enough of KjSU so far this year to think they have issues. Utah was solid-but UCLA is a Big 10 bottom feeder. I'd expect Utah to cruise against them-even on the road.

just dropped in to post something like this. Utah looks like the class of the b12 so far, but it is early. ucla has some athletes. they are mid- at best in the b10 but Utah looks really good upfront.

the ****ty ass big12 is even enough we still got a shot at making some noise. the acc really helped themselves in week 1. that alone is not good for CU because it further denigrates the quality of the b12.

there are no monsters in the b12. we need to be the monster.

Our conference looks bad so far. Really bad. Some teams have looked nice like TT, BYU, and Kansas but they played no one so I really can't tell yet with those 3. Utah looks like Vegas and the scouts are right again. This is a team that was truly just a QB away.

How do you reconcile these two posts? You can’t suggest that no one looks trash, everyone is good and no one looks even average and then say the conference looks really bad so far.

The thing with Utah and Dampier is that he's got that Plummer/Favre/Romo gene where he'll make big plays, put up numbers and be a competitor - but he'll also do some things that open the door and give the opponent an opportunity to win.

Two different measuring sticks.

One for balanced conferences and the other for contenders
this.

yeah, the b12 is balanced and competitively level. it is also lacking any for-sure playoff contenders. acc got 2 in the tourney last year. b12 only one. the perception of our conference is not good. we gotta make some noise soon. Clemson carried the water for the whole acc for years. we need to be like that.

Having the best top-to-bottom conference with the highest percentage of bowl eligible teams and then seeing the highest rate of players drafted is irrelevant even if you can get there. Irrelevant for national respect if you don't ever win national championships. The PAC-12 reached that very level for years, but cratered because USC failed to rebound from its NCAA penalties. You need both, though. An elite program or two with the rest of the conference seen as less than other power conferences gives you the ACC during the same period.

had the nuclear re-alignment occurred during the Clemson only phase of the acc, Clemson plus Florida State make the cut into the bigs. now we gotta worry about north Carolina and g-tech and so forth.

we need wins, ratings, and hype. 2-3 elite programs are better than one, but if we are the one in the b12 then we are safe, I think.

New rankings out and texas still #1. ok?
Don't think so. Most current AP poll is from August 11, most current Coaches poll is August 4. They will delay the polls this week because of the Sunday and maybe the Monday games.

With that don't expect Texas to drop out of the top 5. Ohio State probably jump Penn State for the top spot.

Biggest mover should be Alabama who got killed by Florida State. FSU jumps into the poll, maybe as high as 15, Bama drops 10 or more spots.

Clemson slides and LSU goes past them.

Miami Notre Dame game will impact a lot of others.

They looked solid. They will be around 6 wins. Maybe 5-7
Time will tell. 5-7 I could see.

Kansas State could drop into the 20s or out of the poll altogether. I think we have enough data on them to wonder what's going on with that team right now.

P4 v P4 results so far:

Nubs over Cincy
Auburn over Baylor
GaTech over Colorado
Ohio State over Texas
Tennessee over Syracuse
FSU over Bama
LSU over Clemson
Utah over UCLA

P4 losses to non-P4:

Stanford loses to Hawaii (counting week 0 in all of this)
N'Western loses to Tulane

Today:
South Carolina v Virginia Tech
Notre Dame* v Miami

Monday:
North Carolina v TCU

So...

Big XII is 1-3, TCU mild favorites
SEC 3-2, South Carolina heavy favorites in remaining matchup
ACC 2-2, plus bad loss by Stanford, 3 games left (*ND is there own P4 entity)
B1G 2-1, plus bad loss by N'Western, done for this week

That win by FSU was huge for the ACC, especially since Clemson dropped their game at home to LSU. There's a way they own the weekend if they win out, but that seems unlikely.

I hate the SEC, but you do have to give credit that they had quite a few P4 road games in week 1.

The Big XII pretty much fell on it's face, K-State escaped absolute disaster and I'll be surprised if they receive any top 25 votes. This could be wildly different if Cincy and Colorado didn't squander so many opportunities to win their games.

AP ratings pre-date Farmageddon in Ireland; K-State and Boise will drop out. Barring Va Tech upsetting South Carolina, everyone else will be safe.

FSU definitely into top 25

Utah probably best candidate to also get in; other options could be Ga Tech, USC, BYU, Auburn, Memphis, or Tulane.

Memphis and Tulane would only be if a lot of voters feel the need to keep a Go5 team in the poll; also expect South Florida will get a few votes.

I'm sure Bama will drop all the way down to 10 or maybe even 11!

ESPN can't allow their darling Tide to drop too far. Who else will they talk about incessantly who doesn't deserve it?
