Other Games Basketball

Up the road, Medved showed what a coach can do with a team lacking great talent. He'll probably be snatched away by a higher profile school. Meanwhile here in Boulder, our 15th year coach lost 13 games in row, finished last in a 16 team conference, and has a secure job. Our roster is again filled with guys with all kinds of "upside". Again.

This is insane.
Switch the teams. CU plays for the MWC championship last night. CSU gets bumped Day 1 in the Big 12 tourney. Now go touch grass.

That’s their best year since Tad was coach, no?
As a former player there.......its either this year or 2017-18 (UNC won the CIT that year). Smiley should be on a hypothetical list, but I wouldn't rule out Rick going to the NBA for a coach when Tad steps down. Chauncey here could be interesting, and Jamahl Mosley might be a resource in a hypothetical coaching change. He got extended in Orlando.

I was thinking the 10-11 team that went dancing the year after Tad left.

We all love to hate on CSU, but Medved is a good coach and Clifford is a late bloomer who will absolutely get be drafted this year. He would have been our best player. We don’t need to let hate blind us to reality.

Medved is a very good coach. Clifford has blossomed into a very good player. That DOES NOT change the fact they play in a horrendous conference and would likely finish last in the Big 12.

MWC…Big XII…

Not sure what point you thought you were making, but it’s two different worlds
This isn't about the conferences. It's about the coaches working with the rosters they put together. Boyle's team were a massively undertalented team this year but even worse, they were not well coached. Absurd, unforced turnovers all season long.

Back to the talent - gaping holes in the front court and the back court. Not one true PG on the roster, in his 15th year? The one true center on the roster was poorly conditioned. With assistants that included Danny Manning and Evan Battey, our big men literally did not learn how to box out until about February.

Everyone respects Boyle for being a good man, running a clean program. All good, but he's far from a great coach. He continues to prove that, and we continue to accept that.

"Unforced turnovers all season long." You new to TadBall? :ROFLMAO:

Listen, I was as pissed and as critical of Tad as anyone on this board this season. He mailed it in on recruiting this past year - both HS and portal. That's a major fvck up. But to say he can't coach is simply fvcking stupid.

If everything holds true to what Tad's teams have done for the past 15 years, they probably win 19 games next year and go to the dance. Just sayin...

The crux of your point is one I completely agree with.......but let me respond to one thing with something I said when the Big 12 move was announced-we joined a league that had Houston (1 seed), ISU (3), Tech (3), and Arizona (4). There's no Cal in the Big 12, and I'm not sure Tad gets it.

Another year like this one and he won't get to retire on his own-especially with the AD raking in cash through football. We can afford to make an MBB coaching change.

This recruiting class is critical. It HAS to be better than this past year's mess, and by a lot.....or Tad won't be here long.

I think this year's incoming class will be LIGHTYEARS better than last year's flop.

We'll see, but this is stacking up as a .500 team in conference to me, at best. Given his history here, that would appear to be the best we could hope for in the Big 12 with him running the program. So that's the mountaintop for Boyle next season, in my view. Given that, why not try something different?

9-9 in league (The Big 12 is going to 18 conference games effective next year) would be good enough for an NCAA bid. So would 7-11 or 8-10.

I'm beginning to buy into the posts I've read that Tad is way behind on using, or just reluctant to use, NIL money to his advantage. If that's indeed the case, what good player would want to be here? 95% of the guys playing the college game won't ever make a dime playing basketball beyond college. It's a wise business decision to go with the team that puts at least some cash in your hand, even if you're not making the big bucks. I was broke as a student at CU, and it sucks.

Bottom line, I'm with you. It seems that Tad hates the way the sport has gone - who doesn't? - but isn't willing to adapt. And he's making too much money to give up the job. And that's where we are, Buff fans.

Its more than just NIL money. I think moving the Big 12 was an adjustment. Officials call games differently in the Big 12-this isn't the finesse style of basketball the Pac 12 was. Having said that, I think winning 2 games at the conference tournament (after just 3 in league) hopefully shows our staff starting to adjust to it. There's no team you can have an off night against and get a W (like playing Cal or WSU at home was).

I'm not asking for the kind of MBB program Houston now has necessarily. There's no reason why this team can't win 7-9 conference games every season, and that's good enough to play in a postseason tournament every year. That doesn't come down to money-that comes down to not getting blown in games like Iowa State in the Maui Invitational because we can't ****ing take care of the basketball. Or blowing a game at home to that same ISU team because we turned it over in several key spots. That's coaching, and that's the kind of **** that will get him fired if next year's team isn't better at it.

Last thing-I guarantee you RG has the money to get rid of Tad if he feels like he needs to do it. We've sold out every football game since Prime's arrival, and we've had 20+ games on national TV since Prime and Co. have been here.

Does anyone have a tourney group going?

Colorado fans…the only group of people who think Tad isn’t a top notch coach…

It’s so weird. Y’all need to stop it.

Which year did he mail it in?

You talking the ‘24 class? Not getting better players than Baskin and Malone when we clearly needed starting, P4 level point guard?

That I’ll agree with, but as far as HS recruiting, Tad continues to bring in better players every year than any previous CU coach.

Tad doesn’t have NIL funds to work with.

I played for Tad in Greeley, and I ****ing love the man. Throwing that out there so you can't give me your "You're a hater!" bull****, Medford.

He's not on the level of Self, Sampson, Lloyd, Otzelberger, McCasland, Drew, Kevin Young, or even Jerome Tang. That's almost half the league. I don't know how many times I have to say this-this isn't the ****ing Pac 12. We're going to need to make moves like getting rid of Tad if he has another year like this one.

I’m not calling you a hater.

But again…there’s reasons Tad got the USA job. There’s a reason that other coaches and people who cover the sport heap praise on him.

Sure. He has been to the round of 32 twice in his time at CU. I'm fine giving him another year, but this season was unacceptable.

LOL. He’s 100% right. Many of the Lawson Lovering suck asses here, you probably included, kept raving about his future potential and ridiculing anyone who didn’t agree. I’ve noticed many of those same posters will die on a hill for Tad Boyle, even though it’s obvious to many it’s time for him to go.

I thought officiating crews were regional and not conference based.

We've sold out every football game since Prime's arrival,
....
This is easily verified to be false. "Nearly sold out with tickets at a higher price", would be accurate.
