Week 8, seems like the season is flying by.
This week the PAC gets the Thursday night attention. Stanford 4-2 goes to the desert to play Arizona State at 3-3.
Saturday we get four big games matching teams in the top 25.
The ACC gives us a battle of unbeaten with (16) North Carolina State 5-0 going to a (3) Clemson team that is 6-0 but has had a couple of games when they didn’t impress.
In SEC country we get (22) Mississippi State who is at 4-2 on the road in the swamp against (5) LSU who continues to surprise. This one will probably knock State out of the rankings but ESecPN will find another school from the conference to push in their place.
The Battle of the day will probably be the B1G war between (6) Michigan and (24) Michigan State at East Lansing. This one often goes against expectations. It used to be easy to pull for the Spartans but since the revelations about their protection of Nasty Dr. Nasser came out they make it easy to pull for Michigan even with a jerk like Harbaugh leading them.
The PAC gets into the act with (12) Glowstick University otherwise known as Oregon coming off a huge win against Washington visiting (25) Washington State. Oregon has much more talent but they are coming off a huge emotional game and Leach has a history of shocking people in games like this.
Another PAC game of interest to Buffs fans gives us USC playing at Utah with both teams coming in 4-2. An important game for the standings and for bowl position.
A team that doesn’t have to worry about bowl position (well maybe they are a big enough turd to not go down sitting sideways) in Nebraska. Still without a win they host 3-3 Minnesota, the Gophers versus the O-fers. Good news for the team in red is they haven’t been giving up 50 points a game every week like last year. Bad news is that hasn’t helped them as they continue to lose big. As much fertilizer as HC Scott Frost has been spreading the state should have a bumper corn crop next year.
With the other teams we hate time to hide the co-eds as Baylor has a bye week. Pedo State coming off two consecutive losses is at a better than expected but still outmanned Indiana.
Big Friday night for other local schools.
Friday night gives us CSU going to take their yearly beating in Boise and AFA at UNLV in a battle of teams that are 2-4.
On Saturday Wyoming (2-5) hosts a pretty solid Utah State (5-1.)
Maybe Nebraska should have scheduled Northern Colorado. The Bears are 0-7 and host the 3-3 Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona. Huskers just need to make sure their loudmouth coach doesn’t publicly call it a “winnable game.”
Local small schools have a busy week.
Colorado Mines at 7-0 continues to lead the league with 5-1 CSU Pueblo hoping somebody can pull the upset and get them back in it.
Won’t happen this week as Mines host Azuza Pacific in a non-conference game that could help Mines in the eventual playoff bracketing.
Pueblo is on the road at Adams State.
