Pac-12 hires MGM's George Kliavkoff to replace Larry Scott as commissioner

At first blush, this is not a great hire because the MGM he’s been a big part of has been in big trouble - even prior to C19. However, I will remain cautiously optimistic.

I think good hire. Reminds me that you don't hire university presidents due to their academic expertise or experience, but how well they can raise money, contracts, their contacts, and raise awareness. Kllavkoff seems likes he has excelled at that those attributes in a lot of broad, applicable areas.

What a disaster of a search. Could have made the no-brainer hire of the WCC commissioner and totally botched it.
I think its pretty clear now that Wilner was offended that he was frozen out of any info and now that its this guy, his unfettered tap of leaks is going to be shut off.

The Pac-12 has considered itself the "conference of champions", but most of those of been in Olympic sports. As Kllavkoff is highlighting, that's not where the butter for the bread comes from (maybe a mixed metaphor, but you get the idea).

To BCS’ point, I sense Wilner is butt hurt because he got frozen out of the discussion. He knew exactly what we knew. That bothered him. So his response was a series of petulant tweets. I’ve always considered Wilner to be a pretty good journalist, but he didn’t exactly bathe himself in glory on this.

why does it matter - Ive never understood this.
Why does what matter? The location of the HQ? Vegas is higher profile and far less expensive. If they’re on the hook for the duration of the existing lease, they’re better off staying in order to avoid paying occupancy expenses in two places.

Was that what he's asking or why breaking a lease costs so damn much?

Cost of commercial RE in SF is insanely more expensive than Vegas?
Breaking a lease early might mean they owe the rest of it anyways or the penalties for breaking it + the cost of the new HQ make it prohibitive?

You know this.
