Release: May 14, 2019
BOULDER — The University of Colorado women's golf coach
Anne Kelly has announced the addition of
Isabelle Simpson of Brisbane, Australia and more recently London, England, to the roster for the 2019-20 season.
"I got to see her play last summer at a tournament in San Diego," Kelly said. "When I saw the golf swing, I thought, 'Wow, that's a good swing.' So I watched her for a while and ended up talking to her dad. She is friends with Kirsty (Hodgkins), so she decided to come over to campus and look around; I wasn't even here for her initial tour, but they really liked what they saw. I'm really excited to see what she can do."
At St. Margaret's Anglican Girls' School, she was a four-year captain on the golf team. During her time there, she saw her stroke average improve steadily, starting with a 79.5 as a freshman, to 73.5 as a senior. She represented the Met North Region in golf for a record eight straight years and captained the Met North Region team during her sophomore, junior and senior years including to a state championships win in her senior year.
...
A multi-sport athlete, Simpson also played representative cricket, soccer and softball. She intends to major in mechanical engineering. Simpson has dual citizenship with Australia and England and has been nominated to play golf for England.
She was also recruited by Purdue, Vanderbilt and Denver. Simpson decided to come to Colorado because of Kelly. "She is an amazing and highly respected coach," she said. She also decided on CU because Boulder is the best place in America to live and to go to college, and because two former teammates, Hodgkins and
Robyn Choi, came to CU and both have become highly successful.
"
(Unless there's been a change in plans, she joins fellow Brit Sophie Johnson (see post #445) as the 2 freshmen coming in this next season.)

Also, I keep forgetting to note in this thread that
women's golf also received its 1st known commitment for
2020 late last year in
Hailey Schalk of Erie and Holy Family High School. (
@GoBuffs08 had already mentioned her commitment last December in post #30 of the
https://www.allbuffs.com/threads/wo...-season-news-and-results.133721/#post-2584555 thread.)
Welcome and congrats to her!
A few things I could find on her-
This article from last December also notes her commitment to the Buffs -
http://www.juniorgolfcolorado.org/National-Letter-of-Intent-Local.html
(" Hailey Schalk of Erie and Holy Family High School, the 2017 JGAC Girls POY who won the 3A state high school titles as both a freshman and a sophomore, plans to play at CU, which is ranked No. 36 in the nation by Golfweek. Schalk has been receiving college scholarship offers since early in her eighth-grade year. Her dad, Matt Schalk, is the PGA general manager and director of golf at Colorado National Golf Club, the home course for the CU men's and women's golf teams.")
